I truly thought that all dogs were male and all cats were female. I can't remember what I age I was when I realised this wasn't the case!

like loads of other people, cats were female and dogs were male, this was because at the pet shop they sold good girl treats for cats and we fed our dog mr. dog dog food.

Growing up, my exboyfriend used to believe that cats and dogs were of the same species and the cat was the female and the dog was the male. Hense, there could be no male cats and visa versa. Well, it wasnt untill he hit the age of 14 that he learned he was wrong... he say two dogs humping and asked his dad if his dogs were gay!!! I guess some kids are slower than others... :0)

i used to believe that all dogs were males and all cats were females...their litters would be a mix of the two. i was probably 12 or so before this no longer seemed strange. crazy huh?

Cats and dogs are the same species.

I certainly believed, and not without a lot of independent reasoning. To me, cats were unmistakedly feminine and dogs very macho. They also vary wildly in size, with a shitsu dog looking much closer to a kitten that a great dane. So I believed that dogs and cats were the males and females respectively of the same species. I can't tell you how disappointed I was to find out I was wrong.

Like a few people have mentioned I used to think that Dogs were the boys and Cats were the girls. I think this belief came from the various cartoons I watched as a child such as "Lady and the Tramp" where the girl puppies all looked like Lady and the boys looked like Tramp and other cartoons that used a similar idea. Walt Disney has a lot to answer for. :)

I too used to think that cats were girls and dogs were boys. We've mostly had female cats, so any male cat is known as an "honorary girl". When referring to them as a group, we always call them "the girls". With other animals, I used to think that the bigger animals were boys, and the smaller ones girls.

Like so many others, I, too, beliived for a long while that all cats were girls and all dogs were boys. My best friend's little brother, though, knew better. HE was positive that boy dogs had boy puppies, and girl dogs had girl puppies.

Since most cats were smaller, 'cuter' and more colorful than dogs. I used to think that cats were actually 'girl dogs' !
