I refused to suck my thumb when I was younger. I thought what I would suck my thumbnail off and I would bleed to death.
When i was little, I sucked my right thumb. One day, it got slammed in a door. It hurt too bad to suck, so my mom told me to suck my left thumb. I tried it and made a yucky face. My mom asked me what was wrong. I told her it tasted like strawberries. She asked what the good one tasted like. I said chocolate.

I never sucked my thumb, I sucked my pointer and middle finger...Then my mom told me that smart people didn't suck their thumb but their middle and pointer fingers...that made me feel good.

When I was in 1st grade a girl had caught me sucking my thumb. She told me that if i sucked my thumb a snake would grow in my stomach.

I sucked on my thumb untill I was 6 years old. A uncle of mine lost three fingers. He told me he lost them from sucking his thumb. So I stopped sucking mine after that!!

I sucked my thumb until I was 9 yrs old. For most of that time, I really believed that water came out of my thumb when I sucked it. I used to argue with my mother about it, when she teased me about it.

I used to believe that every time i sucked my thumb it would loose all its blood, and in the end rot. I was 5 at the time, and dad was quite desperate for me to stop, when he told me this story. I stopped sucking my thumb at once, and tried various ways to get more blood into my thumb, as I'd been sucking it since I was a baby. I can't believe how stupid i was!

I used to suck my thumb and rub my top lip at the same time. My mom told me that this would stimulate the hairs to grow and I'd end up with a moustache - not nice on girls (or men come to think of it)!

I was a well-known thumbsucker during my childhood. I tried to hide it as much as I could, but occassionally, I'd get caught. An uncle of mine once told me that when you suck your thumb, it shrinks and will eventually fall off. The uncle would reference my now-deceased grandfather, who only had half of his right index finger. I was told "that's how Grandpa lost his finger... he was sucking it too much." I was terrified, but couldn't stop my habit. Instead, I'd try "spreading out" my sucking, trying to not resort to my thumbs all the time, but to try my index, middle, ring and pinkie fingers as well (didn't work). Although I obviously didn't think about this threat daily after a certain point, I remember coming to the realization in high school that something I had always believed... that sucking your thumb will make it fall off... couldn't possibly be true. I asked my father and sure enough, Gramp lost his finger in a work accident while he was a ship builder in the 40's!

I met a train driver who was really concerned when he saw me sucking my thumb, he showed me his and it was missing and he said he sucked it till it fell off. I never sucked my thumb again and always felt so sad for that man.

i used to think if you sucked your thumb enough you'd suck off your thumb.
I used to suck my thumb constantly and my mum hated it, so one night she said " you know aliens have 3 fingers, well when you suck your thumb they come and cut it off your hand & sew it onto their hand then they have more fingers"!!! I took my thumb out my mouth and never sucked it again lol!!!

i used to suck my index finger and was told it would fall off deform my face etc.etc.parents tried all sorts of bribery torture and at the grand old age of 4 i gave up this disgusting habit! i am now 35 and frequently suck my THUMB when i am tired unwell or upset

When i was about 2 or 3 years old i always sucked my thumb and no matter what my parents did i wouldn't stop. Well any way my nan had lost the top half of the outer fingers on her right hand working in a meat factory when machinary squahsed them.. one day she decided to tell me that it was the result of sucking her thumb when she was my age... i don't think i've ever sucked my thumb after that -_-
when i was smaller everyone told me that if u sucked ur thumb then it would fall of when u reach about 20 years old. i really did believe it, untill i found out it wasnt true
I used to suck my finger, and because I did it so regularly and couldn't sleep without (until I was about 12, and couldn't anymore because of my braces, which I needed because I sucked my finger... anyway!) I always thought my left index finger was smaller than my right because I'd been sucking it away! I'd also remembered left and right by looking at which finger was wrinkly from all the sucking
I used to suck my thumb horribly, until my mother told me about the thumb snipper who would cut off my thumbs if he saw me doing it.
Being a nervous, gullible cild I immediately stopped - and instead I used to suck on my little finger. Aftter all, the thumb snipper only snipped thumbs! I still do that now when I'm thinking about something.

Well when i was little i sucked my thumb until i was about four then i stopped. Then i started in kindergarten again because my best friend (stll!) did. Then my sister said that your thumb wouldn't grow anymore and would shrink! I stopped sucking my thumb and told my mom, and she told me she sucked her thumb until she was 11!
