When I was 4 or 5 we had a pet dog "Tilly" that was hit by a car. My dad didn't have the heart to tell me, so he told me the dog was at the vetenary clinic getting a robotic leg. So I'd ask regularly how Tilly was doing, and they said it was a new procedure so it was taking longer, but she'll be back soon.
This continued for years, until my dad finally gave up and told me "Bruce, the dog died 3 years ago."
once when i was little, i stepped on a lady bug i saw crawlling on the sidewalk. i buried it in my mom's flower garden and marked it with a stick. Like 5 minutes later i came back and i was expecting to see it's skeleton laying there were i had buried it!
once when i was little i was contemplating death and i asked my father if chickens went to heaven. he replied "i suppose they do" to which i said "it must be crowded."
i used to believe they killed animals on drama or movie but now.........
When I was little, I believed that I could call Heaven and talk to my dog that had passed away.. After I said my prayers each night I would "call" Heaven (with an imaginary phone that apparently had a direct connection) and ask to speak to "Queen"... I would even wait patiently while God put me on hold so He could go find her and tell her she had a call.. When she finally came on the line I would tell her random facts about my day and that I loved her and missed her very much and would talk to her tomorrow night.
I used to have a dog named Piper who was a black Labrador. We were best mates and as a child I spent most of my time playing with him. One day my parents said that we had to send Piper away to a farm because he has more space there (we were moving house). It wasn't until about 2 months ago (I'm 18) that I discovered he was really put down! Turns out 'going to a farm' is the nice way to say it to a kid. I was shattered!
My sister only recently found out that the dogs we had when we were kids didnt go to live on a farm and chase rabbits, the story our parents told us when they had them put down. Shes 18. Come to think of it she thinks i was joking when i told her that.
A friend told me this about someone she knew. He thought that up until the age of about 20 that if a goldfish died and you put it in a dark cupboard over night it came back to life in the tank. He was certain about this and said that his mother did this as a child. He was shocked when my friend pointed out that his mother probably went to the shop and bought another goldfish
My dalmatian dog, Kim, died when I was three and my mum and dad explained that he had went to a better place. Since then I would only let my mum buy a particular brand of dog food for our other dog becuase there was a dalmatian used in one of their commercials, therefore it must be Kim and this brand was the best if it makes him happy. I was so upset later when the advert stopped running and the dog never came home, they had to explain all over again.
When my brother and I were at a school fair we both won goldfish. His died in a couple of days and the next day when I came home from school- there was my fish, laying on my desk...with a fork through it. I cried and cried and my brother told me that he had seen our cat do it because it was jealous. I believed him for years!
I used to believe there were small bull like animals that ate kittens. You see, one of my kittens died from choking on a fur ball when I was in 1st grade. I heard fur "Bull" and for several years told no one, but looked around a LOT when alone in the house. It took me years to realize the truth.
My niece walked into my father's "hunting room" with all the animal heads on the wall. She was so concerned as to what happened so we told her they all went to heaven. She responded with "just their butts?"
When I was little we took my dog, Toffy, to the SPCA, supposedly to be adopted. My parents told my brother and I that our dog had gone to a lovely family that lived on a farm that had lots of space for Toffy to run around on, and that she was very happy. It was only after watching a Friends episode, years later (I was in my late 20s) that I realised that Toffy had in fact been put down. I was shocked, believing all this time that she had been on a farm and enjoying every minute of it!
when i was little my pet fish died my mom told me that butterfin (my fish) got out of the fish tank and got on a plane to San Fransisco.(we live in arizoana)
When I was small, I had dozens and dozens of goldfish over different periods of time. When my fish died, I was sad, but when I got a new one I believed that it was simply the old one back from the dead (I named my goldfish the same thing every time: Sparkly :)
When I was little i had a goldfish named Jaime, when he died my uncle told me that he had gotten him a job at SeaWorld, I believed him till I was 12
On the morning I started my period I found my guenea pig dying on the floor at the bottom of his cage outside . I put him in front of the fire but he died anyway . I wondered for years if I had put some kind of hormonal curse on him.
when i was 3 or 4, my dog died and my dad told me but i didn't know what it meant. about a week later, my mom was dying her hair. till i was five i thought my dog was transfered to a higher class beauty salon in Australia.
You know how when a kid's pet dies and the parents replace him without the kid's knowing and say he came back to life? Well, for me it was the opposite! I accidentally injured my pet gerbil Timothy and there was blood and everything and we thought he was dead, but he revived somehow! But for years I thought my parents had replaced him behind my back. I believe them now, but I still have no idea how that happened. Wierd.
When I was about 8 or 9, while at school, my cat passed away. My Mom didn't want me to know what happened, so to spare us the pain and grief, she told us He had gotten married and taken a job in Arizona. (We lived in Chicago) For years after, I was mad at my cat for not writing or calling!
I didn't find out until 2 years ago what had really happened!
I am 35 Now!
