When I was little, I thought that if you just ate plain ketchup (no food with it), it made a hole in your stomach and it leaked into your body and that is why blood is red!!

When I was 10 or so my dad told me that freezer burn on ice cream gave you cancer. I never questioned this belief and held onto it subconsciously until I was 17. Whenever I saw freezer burn on ice cream I'd either a) eat around it or b) put it back in the freezer, never thinking that maybe I should either not eat around cancer or maybe even throw it out. It was when I wondered "why don't we throw it out, then?" that I realized maybe he had been joking.

I used to believe that is you cooked eggs the wrong way you would fry your brain on drugs, because of that old public service ad that said, "this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs," and then they would crack and fry an egg.

When I was young my Grandma told me that eating to many pickled onions would stunt my growth. So I was frightened to death of touching them, because I was only 3 foot at the time and did not what to stay that way. Everything has worked out I am 6.1 and love eating pickles. My idea is that I don’t want to grow any taller, so I must be safe to eat then now. Thanks Granny

When I was little my parents used to make me toast, use cookie cutters to cut it into interesting shapes, and then put butter, jelly, or peanut butter on the shapes...it was easy to make and I was a really finicky kid.

Anyway, one day my mom accidentally put peanut butter *and* butter on a piece of toast - I didn't expect it and I guess I had a weird reaction. My dad asked what was wrong and I told him about the peanut butter-butter combination, and he exclaimed "poison!" Now I realize he just meant that it didn't sound like a particularly appetizing mix, but then I thought he meant it was *actually* poison. I started crying *really* loudly because I thought I was going to die.

When I was little, I was watching Barney, and one of the little girls told a story about a boy who ate noodles so much, he turned into a giant noodle (i think they were trying to teach kids not to be afraid of trying new foods). After that I refused to eat noodles, thinking I would accidently eat a kid who had turned into one.

I moved to the USA when I was a kid and had to learn english on my own. I didn't understand much about what was going on around me. Lunch time was hell because I was on my own. I knew what a jelly fish was, but I didn't know that 'jelly' by itself meant something. I thought for months that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches served at the school cafeteria were actually peanut butter and jelly fish sandwiches. Needless to say I brought my own lunch on these days.

When I was about 2 my cousin who was about 9 told me that if I ate the pointy ends of french fries, I would choke on them and die instantly. I now know that isn't true after a humiliating incident and swallowing one without biting off the end first and told everyone I was dying and to call 911. I still can't break the habit of breaking off the ends of the fries. Man I love my cousin.

When I was about 3 my cousin, about 5, told me that if I ate the dharp ends on french fries, they would choke me and I would die. I believed that until I was about 8. Now I am in my teens and I know that isn't true but I can't break the habit of pulling off the sharp ends. This can really cause a kid to be hungry when you eat at McDonalds.

I used to believe that if you didn't wash apples that you would get poisoned and die. I also thought this is why Adam was kicked out of the garden of Eden. "You know, they should have washed those apples before they ate them."

My grandpa ,and in fact my whole family, would always tell each other that only people in our family could eat watermelons & drink beer at the same time, and everyone else exploded or somehow else die a horrible death. Watermelons & beer.. what great family reunions. I was afraid for their lives, and I admired their bravery. I only hoped that one day I could eat watermelon and drink beer simultaneously without dying as well. And I can.

You know how when you make jello, it is first in a liquid form? Well when i was little i would drink that when i got thirsty and my brother would always tell me the jello will sit in my stomach and i would explode. Well that night he got spaghetti, ketchup and jello and put it all over the inside of my bed so i would think i exploded...
Needless to say, i beleived it. Now i'm 24 years old and i still won't go near jello
