Once, when I was very young, I used to think that all poison was green and smelled putrid, like sewage, and that if you ate anything green, you would die. I was very afraid of anything green until my mother told me otherwise.

I stopped eating bananas for several years because I thought the little black things that were in the middle of the banana when you bit it were a spider's legs sticking up and that there were spiders in every banana.

After watching the "Blob" I was convinced that if I slept with no part of my body hanging out of my bed, the Blob could not get me. I also developed a fear of Jello and jellys. Especially the "jell" that came out canned ham.

Worms and Uncooked pastry.

My Grandmother told me that if I ate uncooked pastry it would give me worms. All she had to say was "Don't eat the dough." When I was 7 or 8; during a class cooking day at school, I touted my belief to a number of my peers (about 7 or 8 years old). The teacher overheard and dismissed my belief. I felt really silly and embarrassed.

Kids are programmed to believe the things adults say.

For some reason I always check underneath everything I eat, I don't know why but I always claimed that food was hiding something. People used to laugh, until the day I found string in my salad, they were soon eating their words!!!!

when I was 4, my mom once told me that spiders and scorpions and stuff lived in banana trees, so I was scared to eat bananas from stores, because I thought that when I peeled the banana, there might be a scorpion in there. heh.

When I was 10 or so my dad told me that freezer burn on ice cream gave you cancer. I never questioned this belief and held onto it subconsciously until I was 17. Whenever I saw freezer burn on ice cream I'd either a) eat around it or b) put it back in the freezer, never thinking that maybe I should either not eat around cancer or maybe even throw it out. It was when I wondered "why don't we throw it out, then?" that I realized maybe he had been joking.

When I was little, whenever we baked a cake, my mum told me not to lick the bowl too much or I would get worms. I never really understood what that meant, and I imagined that slimy multicoloured worms would grow on the roof of my mouth.
