My sister told me that the pips and liquid inside tomatoes were poisonous, and that you were only supposed to eat the skin. I think this was because she hated tomatoes and she wanted me to dislike them too. I don't remember when I was disabused of this belief, but it must have happened, because the slimy bit in teh middle is my favourite part now.

A grown-up once told me when I was eating watermelon to never swallow the seeds or they would grow in my belly. The grown-up then pointed out a pregnant woman and said she had swallowed a watermelon seed. I was VERY careful everytime I ate watermelon that I didn't swallow a single seed!

my grandmother told me how eating watermelon seeds would cause a vine to grow out your ears (which i naturally believed and avoided seeds with all my might). well, my brother and i took horseback riding lessons at a nearby stable and one day he brought along pomegranites to feed them after our ride. unsure what a pomegranite was but trusting my older brother, i began feeding it to my horse. suddenly i noticed it was filled with seeds and i watched horrified as the horse gobbled down the seed filled fruit. i was sure i'd harmed the horse causing a vine to grow out it's ears!! my brother doubled over laughing! i was relieved the following week to see the horse was unharmed and anxious for another taste.
