I used to believe that the reason married couples had the same last name was because you could only marry someone who had your last name. I was quite daunted by the task of not only finding someone I wanted to marry, but finding someone I wanted to marry that had my last name.

I used to believe that when I grew up I had to marry my brother because we had the same last name. I was very angry about this because at the time I really didn't like him.

Since both my parents had the same last name, I thought you had to marry someone with your last name. I didn't want to marry the only girl I knew with my same last name, so in 4th grade I bit her on the arm.

I used to believe that you had to marry someone if they had your same last name. I believed this untill I was 11. When I meet a guy with my same last name, I avoided him, however he would keep talking to me. I freaked out and screamed at him that I would not be his wife. Boy was he confused. =P

When my daughter was young, she thought that she would need to look in the phone book to find a husband to be sure that they both had the same last name.

I used to believe that you had to marry the person who had the same last name as you. I thought that would be how you knew who to marry. That's why the married couples I knew had the same last names!

When I was a kid, I wondered why husband and wife always had the same surname. I thought that people are stuck to having to marry someone of the same surname. And since my surname is rare, I was so scared because I thought I was stuck to having to marry my brother, 'coz I didn't like him.

When I was young I didn't realise that women changed their last name when they got married...so I thought that you married someone with the same last name as you. I was sure I was destined to marry my cousin.

When I was little, I thought there was a law that you had to marry someone with the same last name as you. My mother was the only married woman I knew who kept her maiden name, so I often wondered why my parents never got in trouble for breaking that law.

When I was a kid, practically all wives still took their husbands' last names. But I didn't understand that that happened and therefore didn't understand that all married couples that I knew of had the same last name for that reason. I thought the only pairs of people allowed to marry were an unrelared man and woman who just happened to already have the same last name. I felt lucky to have a fairly common last name, thinking that would make it easier for me to find someome to marry. As for people with quite uncommon last names, I wondered how they ever managed to find anybody to marry.
