I once overheard my grandfather telling my mother about a few guys that he used to work with who were fired, but he used the word 'canned'. I thought canned meant killed.
when i was 10 years old, i, unlike most girls my age, decided that i wanted to go into outer-space, and i let everyone i met know about it.
i had just been given the "birds and the bees" lecture by my mother on periods and where babies come from. soon after that, my horrable older brother told me that women that went into outer-space needed to have their ovaries and uterus removed so that they didn't get their period, or have babies in space. i imageined that getting my ovaries and uterus removed would be a terrably painful opperation and so i gave up my dream of going into outer-space and then said that i was going to be a cloud when i grew up.
I used to believe that when people grew up they automatically were instilled with knowledge and professionalism. I was informed at my first "real job" there are D students everywhere. *sigh*
When he was around five, my little brother always used to tell everyone that he wanted to be a bulldozer driver when he grew up. This was because he had once found a quarter in the dirt near a bulldozer at a new housing development we were visiting, and he apparently got the idea that bulldozers regularly dug up money and if he had one of his own, he could find all the money buried under the ground and eventually become rich.
I was convinced that anyone belonging to the Masonry had to be a stone mason who built houses and brick walls. It did seem odd that they should be considered so important, but I reasoned that out thinking how important building walls and houses was.
When I first asked my Dad what he did at his job, he replied "I make money." For years I imagined my father at a US Mint facility actually making money, turns out he was a salesman.
I used to think my dad worked on the moon (and was the man on the moon in all those kids songs) because when my dad went to work, my mum said he was going to the moon.
when I was a kid my parents went thru two ordealing dramas constantly, paying bills, balancing the checkbook and doing taxes, growing up I learned this was all unnecessary hype and no big thing - just a bunch of numbers addded together ,without any hesitation....
When is was a kid.I often saw on the television, programs about oil platforms. I always noticed the tower where they would burn the gas they could not handle. And i thought that they pumped up the oil just so they could burn it.
I used to believe that carpenters worked on cars. I was four when my parents bought a house that they kept referring to the carpenter, as in: the carpenter did this or that wrong, or didn't finish something. I thought, "well, what is he doing building houses when he is supposed to be fixing cars?"
My dad used to tell us that the reason the other kids at school had nice clothes instead of hand-me-downs like us, is because we had violin lessons and they didn't. He lied. Actually doctors and lawyers just make WAY more money than pastors.
One of my best friends used to believe that my father was a privite investigator. Why? He had a handgun, of course. (It was an old six-shooter, kept in a display case.)
I used to believe that a "full-time job" was truly full time, where you worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It made me worry terribly about growing up - I didn't think I could handle a full-time job.
i used to believe the graveyard shift was when you worked in a graveyard
I used to believe that a "website" was a job, called a websighter, because I used think that anyone who could find a spiderweb would get paid like a normal job (firefighter, doctor, Etc!) i aLways said When I Grow uP, I WANNA BE a WEBSIGHTER!!!!!!freaky huh.
My dad was in the reserves. One time when I was [10 I asked him what he did the two weeks a year when he went to summer camp. He told me that he painted jeeps. What he failed to mention was that was one thing he did a long time ago so until I was a teenager I believed that every year when he went to "summer camp" all he did was paint jeeps.
i used to believe my dad was the greatest while he worked in a pizza chain store. the pizza logo on the top of his car made me proud. i wasn't that impressed when he owned his own construction business or took me on cruises.
When i was little I used to think that Martin Luther King was the king of all black people.
Being a princess was a real profession
when I was young my dad was a fireman. My mum tells me that for years I was convinced fire engines were really called 'daddy daddy nee nors!'
