When I was growing up I loved The Police (the band, that is ;) and I still do. Unfortunately I didn't buy the album "Ghost in the Machine" until several years after I started listening to it. Alas, I thought I was listening to the song "Too much sh*t for measure", but I was really listening to "Too much information". I'm a big Sting fan, but I'll put money down if you can tell the difference today!

I thought the song "Swing low, Sweet chariot" went:

"Sweet n'low, sweet Harriet"

I thought they meant some girl Harriet was as sweet as sweet n'low. Man, was I dissapointed when I found out the right lyrics.

In the song "Dream a little dream of me", there's a line that goes, "birds singing in the sycamore trees, dream a little dream of me"... My roommate and I were listening to this song last night and I asked her if she knew what a sycamore tree was, and she told me that I misheard the lyrics and that line actually went: "birds singing in the sake of more trees"....
Well, I was quite convinced by her that it was me who misheard the lyrics, ha!

When I was growing up I loved to listen to my parents' Pointer Sisters cassette. But the song, "Jump" always threw me, I thought for sure she was saying, "If you want me my kiss is in the night stand" I still had no idea what she was saying until I looked it up a couple weeks ago.

When I was little I heard "The 12 Days of Christmas" and I thougt the line,"a partridge in a pear tree" was, "a partra jennapear tree". I always wanted to know what kind of tree that was. Also, when my mother was little she heard "who wrote the book of love" as, "who wroter the moo cow now".

It's weird how it makes sense at the time and only seems silly in retrospect

I used to beleive that in Macy Gray's song "I Try" the chorus was "I try to say goodbye and I choke, Try to walk away and I stumble, Though I try to hide it, it's clear, I blow bubbles when you are not near" , and it used to sing it that way all the time. Now that I think about it, it sounds absolutely insane, but it sounded right at the time. I took me a few months to figure out that it was "My world crumbles when you are not there".

I used to believe, until I was in my late 30's that on the song "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones that the first line said "Tired of Living is easy to do" and FINALLY learned that it says "Childhood livng is easy to do". OBVIOUSLY the first version makes absolutely no sense. What a dope and how embarrasing this was while I was belting it out at concerts and in the car at the top of my lungs!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that in the song "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani it said "i'm not in no Hall of Fat Girls" when it really says "i'm no hollaback girl". I figured out my mistake when I found out what the name of the song was and realized thats what it had been saying all along.
