I used to believe (thanks to my mum!) that when it began to thunder, it meant that the angels in heaven were dragging around their furniture. I would always have a mental image of a bunch of angel pushing around a dining table because they wanted to rearrange their dining room!

Me and a friend were caught out in a thunder storm once, i sat and told her that it was zeus having a battle with another god on metal chariots, and everytime there was a flash of lightining and a rumble, it was the chariots colliding and one of them falling over.
