When I was about 4 , I asked my mom why it rains and she told me that all these birds had to hold it in for a really long time and when it was decided , they all let off at the same time and it was the rain. I believed that for a good long time.
When I was younger I used to think that clouds were mado out of diamonds. My first time on a plane I tried very hard to figure out how to open the window, and was very disappointed when I couldn't. It was my get rich quick scheme. What made me think this? Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. Makes sense doesn't it?
Wind came from children who were being punished - they were forced to stand in a barn and an old man made them all blow in the same direction to make wind.
When I was little, I thought that clouds were made of a solid substance. I also thought that you could reach out of an airplane window with a jar in your hand, and scoop up some spongy, foamy clouds. I was DEVASTATED when I found out they were just glorified water.
When I was very little I used to believe the reason it rained was because God would open up his freezer in heaven and ice would fall out and fall down the sky and by the time it reached earth it was melted and turned into water (rain).
I used to think that snow was rain still in the bag.
When the weather was bad outside, I used to copy what I thought my dad was saying, and say "let's go out and brave the elephants", instead of elements.
When I was about 5 or 6 and even later, I used watch the clouds during a mild windy day, believing that they were trasforming into creatures of different shapes and forms for the purpose of having a party. I thought they were talking to each other and I wished so much to know what they say! So silly!
I used to believe that clouds were foreign countries.
I use to believe that if the clouds were gray it was because they were filled with dirt and then the rain came to rinse them off and they'd be white again.
Because of my sister, I believe that when there was a ring around the moon, aliens would come the next day and abduct someone. I told this to my friends because I honestly had no idea and ended up scaring them silly.
When I was 6, my family moved from New York City to the suburbs in Florida. In NYC the sky is usually gray or smoggy so it was the first time I had seen blue skies and clouds. I used to try to lay in the grass and look for shapes in the clouds but I never could stay long enough to find anything because I was absolutely terrified that the clouds would fall on me. I was still uneasy even after I learned that clouds are weightless water vapor.
My boyfriend used to think that it couldn't be windy unless it was cloudy- because of all the kids books where the clouds have little faces and are blowing leaves off trees etc.!
When my mom would tell my it was raining cats and dogs, I thought I would need to put all my cats and dogs in a cage so they would not fall from the sky!
I used to believe that, when it rained in my city, it rained all over the world. It took me a couple years (of young childhood, like, before grade school) and of watching the weather channel on TV as punishment, lol) to figure out that it rained in different areas at different times. Of course, I rarely see someone that was as dumb as I was back in those days.
I use to think that snow was oreo cookie filling. When the snow melted I thought The oreo workers (my name for them) would collect the cream
I had a charming meteorological theory when I was young.
Drizzle - God's spit
Snow - God's dandruff
Rain - God, er, relieving himself.
When my son was young, we went up north to visit relatives. It was dark out, but snowing. I wanted to show my son (then a toddler) the snow so, I turned on the outside light so he could see it falling. Then, when we were finished, I turned the light out. Well, he saw me flip the switch off and assumed that it operated the snow because he said "turn the snow back on mommy!"
I remember asking my mother why there are clouds in the sky. She told me they are there so they could clean up our cars when driving on a cloudy day...
when i was a little girl i used to believe that rain is broght down to earth when goddesses who cry over their dead husband (gods)corpes who fought with each other in war.
