I used to think that you could have your birthday any time you wanted, and that people just chose to have their birthdays once a year. I wanted to have my birthday once a day instead of once a year. Many mornings I would get up and announce to my family that today was my birthday.

Craziness!

for some reason, sometimes when my mom and i would go to stores i would loudly announce my b-day...thinking that the strangers around me would come to our house and give me presents. didn't think to also say my address...and i was always disappointed that those complete strangers never got me anything! lol

Whenever I had a birthday party as a child and someone would say, "make a wish" as I was blowing out the candles, I always believed that that meant I had to hold my hand up to my face while blowing them out. I don't know why, but I didn't know what a wish was.

When I was in kindergarten or first grade there was a girl who had the same birthday as me. She looked liked I did, our teachers even confused us. So I assumed that everbody who had the same birthday looked alike. It wasn't until I met my aunt's friend who had her birthday but looked nothing like her that I realized I was wrong.

My sister's birthday is July 5th. I used to get jealous because I thought the world was celebrating her birthday with fireworks and I got nothing on my birthday.

When I was little I my baby brother was born in July so after that I thought all babies were born in July and then they got to choose what month they wanted thier birthday to be in.

my birthday is the traditional Memorial Day (May 30). My father told me people put out their flags because it was my birthday. I believed it until I was about 10!

I used to believe that the queen lived in a retirement housing estate about 5 minutes away from my house.
This is because, on the way to school oneday when I was 5, we went past estate and a big banner saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUEEN ELIZIBETH" hung from bungalow to bungalow.
On my birthday party we had had a "happy birthday Claire" banner hung on the window so that my friends could find my house for the party.
I then realised that the queen OBVIOUSLY lived in one of them bungalows, and today she was having a party with all her friends.
I had an image in my head of the queen and all her posh old lady friends drinking cherryade, eating cake and playing games like pin the tail on the donkey!

I used to think that my sign (cancer) was named after the disease. One day when I was probably in 5th grade my friend and her Mom were talking about their signs and they asked what mine was. I said Cancer...I don't like mine because it's the only bad one, why is mine a disease and yours is a scorpion?

When I was little (before school) I would insist that my birthday was Remember 2nd because I knew that was a word and I thought November was a word my family made up to trick me, since they would laugh every time they asked and corrected me.

My twin sister and I are the only children in our family. I used to believe that our birthday was a holiday, like Christmas or Easter because everyone around us seemed to celebrate it. It wasn't until we went to preschool and someone brought in birthday treats on the "wrong" day that I was corrected.

When I was little I thought that whatever was on the birthday card was the gift you were going to get - like if there was a duck on the card I thought I was going to get a duck for my birthday. I was always, always disappointed - especially if there was a pony on the card.

when I was little I thought that the army base open-house that happened each year was Smokey the Bear's birthday party (he promotes fire safety in commercials), there would be kids games and sometimes cake. I thought he just really liked tanks and so went for an army theme, and being a celebrity he could afford to go all out. It was such a big place that I didn't find it that strange if I could go for the whole event and not see him.

I didn't realize the truth until I was in my late teens reminiscing with my parents about how I used to love going to Smokey's birthday... they were a little confused.

When my brother was born on my 3rd birthday, I thought he was my birthday present. I ran around saying he was mine, he was my present.

Years later I asked my mom if I could return him and she told me there were no refunds, the store was closed.

My sister told me that since I was a Scorpio, I would turn into a scorpion on my 21st Birthday. Currently, I'm 20 and my birthday is only 2 months away and I'm still a little scared! :)
