Until i was about 7 years old i believed that if you were born black you would eventually turn white and if you were born white you would turn black. I remember my mum asking me when i very young what i wanted to be when i grew up and i rubbed my face and said "black! black!" i think she tried to explain but i didnt believe her and when we were asked the same question in the first grade i said i wanted to be a Janet Jackson inpersonator, since i was going to be black!

When I was 5, my Aunty that I didn't know too well came back from a trip to Japan. She bought me a geisha doll, and my mum told me "This is from Japan".

I used to think all guys we're called "Bill". So instead of saying "Who is that man?" I would say "Who is that Bill?" My mom said that happened because at that time the only men I really was around like my grandfather, uncle and cousin were all named Bill.

I used to believe when I was a kid that Abraham Lincoln was the first black president. It made sense at the time because he was on a copper penny and he had curly hair and he freed the slaves. It was quite embarrassing when I found out from a friend that I was quite mistaken.
