When I was a kid I found it hard to say "Sebastian". I always pronounced it "Sebastican".
When I first heard the term al fresco I thought it was someone's name. I think the first place I heard it was "an al fresco buffet" and thought "this guy Al Fresco must be a really good cook if they mention him by name!"
I used to believe that clowns lived at the circus, until I was 10.
As a kid I assumed that only really pretty (like movie star or model pretty) people could actually get a boyfriend/girlfriend/lover etc. For some reason it didn't occur to me that if that was the case the world would be populated only by really pretty people since only they would have reproduce
When I was younger, I used to think a "slut" was a really beautiful girl. I brought my favorite Barbie doll to school for show and tell and when my teacher asked me why she was my favorite doll I replied, "because she's a slut."
I used to believe that you chose what ethnicity you wanted to be when you grew up. I'm white, and when I was little I wanted to grow up to be Asian. I was really disappointed when I found out I'd always be a white girl!
I believed that when you lied, a silver screwdriver would shoot out of Heaven and unscrew your bellybutton and your BUTT would FALL OFF, and you’d be SHOWN to be a liar!
How did I come up with that one? I didn’t– MOM told me that, and I believed her. Asked when I was grown up why she told me that, and she said, “Well, Suzi, whenever you were trying to lie to me, the first thing you did was cover your stomach”. Yup, my Mom!
I used to believe that when you got married (a woman), you had to change your FIRST name. I spent hours agonizing over that and trying to come up with a new first name I liked...because I love my own name so much. LOL.
I used to believe that people only grew, physically and in age, on their birthday.
When I was very young I thought my mom and dad were actually named "Mom" and "Dad"! I think once I even called where my Dad worked asking to talk to "Dad" and got mad when they didn't know who I meant!
