I used to believe that if you dialed "0" and didn't press another button on the phone REALLY fast then the you would call the police. I would get very nervous anytime I had to call my friend at 868-0791. Sometimes I just couldn't handle the pressure and I'd walk to his house instead.
When I was little we had dial up internet. My dad told me that when we were waiting for the internet to come on the computer and the phone were talking. I used to pick up the phone to hear all the strange chirps and beeps. I then concluded that the phone and the computer must have their own secret language and I was dissapointed that I couldn't understand it.
I used to believe that if you played with the phone without permission, the operator would come through the phone holes and stab you in the ear. After learning this, I never played with the phone again.

One Christmas day when I was very young, I decided to play with the telephone and got through to a woman. My mum heard me talking and came to see what was going on, took the phone away from me and apologised to the woman. For some reason I was convinced that I was in trouble because the woman was the Queen and I was disturbing her Christmas Day lunch.

When I was young, I used to think that if I picked up the phone while it was ringing then I would get electrocuted. I thought this because everyone that would answer the phone would wait until after the ring.

when i was little (elementary school) my friend would always call the operator for fun. she would say random things or hang up or try to start a conversation with them. i asked how she knew how to call the operator and she told me it was a long series of secret numbers only she knew. i was really upset and got mad at her for not telling me. i just found out this isnt true and im 15

When i first heard of fax machines i used to believe that there was an invisible line in the sky that it would transfer the page and papers would "move" around the sky...
When my mom tried to telephone someone and she'd hang up because the line was busy, I thought she said "The lion was busy." And I thought there was a lion in a big cage somewhere and if he was eating a big steak for lunch or was otherwise busy, calls couldn't get put through till he was done.
i used to think that whenever someone called someone else on a telephone that only the reciever needed a telephone and the caller just talked into the air.
I used to believe that everyone's phone number was 1-800-[their name.] So my friend Lindsay's number would have been 1-800-Lindsay, Big Bird's was 1-800-Big-Bird, etc.

I used to believe that when you heard noise on the telephone that sounded like wind blowing, it really was the wind blowing through telephone wires.

When the cellphones were invented and I used to watch them on tv how they look like, one day my dad came up from work with a remote control and leave it on top of the bed. I enter the room and stole it try to dial the button. I just found out later that that was a remote.

When I was from 3 - 6 I used to believe that when I talked on the phone the person I was talking to was inside the phone so if I dropped it they would fall over or get hurt, so I always made a big apology and was scared to ddrop the phone.

When i was little i was always dead silent when the telephone answering machine came on because i thought that the person calling could hear me, so if it was a bill collector I would always hush up

When I was little I believed that whenever someone would leave a message on a answering machine, but not talk, they could hear everything that is going on in my house.

When I was a little kid I thought that when you called someone, there was a tiny replica of them inside the telephone that talked to you. I wondered how there got to be a tiny replica of everyone in the world inside our phone. It seemed very impractical.
