I remember believing that sex was a very rare festivity, like the marriage of princes and the Queen's birthday, to be broadcast on TV, or that they were actually the same thing. I assume this is due to my brother telling me he was watching a rerun of Lady Di's wedding (this was only days after the 'real' ceremony), when he and a couple of his pals were of course actually enjoying a porn flick.

When I was very young, I was watching a movie with my parents, and in the movie, a woman talked about having been raped. I asked my mother what rape was, and without hesitation, she told me that it was when one person forced another person to take their clothes off. I understand why she said it... I didn't even know what sex was yet, but the misconception was never corrected.

For years, everytime I would hear about rape on the news or in movies or TV shows, I would wonder what the big deal was, it seemed like they were being all whiny and hurt over nothing.

It wasen't until I was a teenager, and I heard about a local girl having been raped, that I actually voiced my opinion about how people seemed to overreact to rape in the presence of others. I got yelled at by several friends, and the misunderstanding was finally resolved.

When I was little, my mom made me watch lots of sex education shows. On one, I must have listened selectively as erections were described. I understood they made the penis larger just fine, but I also got the impression that their effect was cumulative. When I was little, around nine or ten, I was at my cousin's house and he was looking at porn. He didn't care that I was in the room. When I was about five or six I had a friend who lived next door. She was three years older than me and knew a lot about sex from her school friends. She always put these ridiculous ideas in my head about what happened during sex. In fact on several occasions things she'd told me had gotten me in trouble.

I don't exactly remember this, but my mother told me that when I was around that age, we were going to go out somewhere, and my parents were trying to get dressed in their room. Ok, Well my best friend and I are both 15 so this is kinda sad. For English I a couple of weeks ago we had to come up with sayings you'd put on those candy heart things. Well, we could share them with the class. When it got to my friend, she said shag me. Well, they weren't supposed to be sex related and my English teachers eyes got HUGE. She looked at my friend and asked her if she knew what shag me meant. When my friend answered she said yeah it means kiss me. She didn't believe it meant have sex with me until the teacher told her.

When I was about four, I heard my parents use the word sex and asked what it was. They were pretty direct and told me it was when a man puts his penis into a woman's vagina. The trouble? At this point I wasn't aware that the vagina was a hole (despite being a girl) or that penises could become erect, let alone able to intuit that any movement would be involved in this. So, my mental picture of sex was very weird for a while. Needless to say, I had no idea how someone came up with it or why people would want to do it.
