I used to believe that the leader of a country could get whatever he wanted for free because of patriotism and the fact that he was the leader.
I used to think that when I would go to the bank that they would put my money in a shoebox in the safe and give me back my money when I came to withdraw. Boy was I upset when they gave me somebody else's money!
I'm a military kid, and when I was little, about 6 years old, my dad was going on tour to Yugoslavia. I didn't know where that was, so I asked him, and he said it was north of some other country. I didn't understand "north", or "south" etc. So I looked up into the sky, and asked, "How do you get up there? Is there a road that goes up there?" thinking you had to drive to the sky. He didn't see me looking into the sky, so he said, "yeah, there's a road that goes up there" as if it was a stupid question, lol. Thankfully, I do understand geography now.
When i was little, my dad always watched the news. I kept hearing things about a black hole in China. And for about a year i thought a black hole had hit China and it had been wiped of the map
when i was super young, in the early 80s, i thought Boris Becker and Steffi Graf must be married to each other, just because they were the two best tennis players in the world.
I used to believe that everything that happens every four years (presidential elections, the olympics, leap year, exc) HAD to happen the same year of every 4-year cycle (probably because the summer olympics do take place during election years). I got very confused when the winter olympics were on and we weren't having a presidential campaign.
when I was a child whenever one of my brothers or I found a coin we had to go and show it to my dad. He told me that if I ever found a coin with the Princesses head on the back I could keep it, and if my brothers found one with the prince or king on the back they could keep it. He naturally got to keep any coin with the Queen's head on the back. I can't believe I fell for that one for so long- I think we ended up giving him a fair bit of money over the years.
I am Australian. When I was young I used to get my countries mixed up. I though America was a big jungle with all these dangerous animals like lions, tigers and leopards lived and that American people spoke in Italian accents.
When I was a kid, I used to believe that 'bicycle goal' was when a player did goal with the bicycle.
When I was younger, we had a giant satellite photograph of the British Isles hanging in our hallway. There was a small strip of land at the bottom of the photograph (northern France and northen Belgium). One day, I asked my mother what country that bit of land was, and she told me it was France. For years afterwards, I believed that France was a long, thin country, covering pretty much all the coast on the other side of the English channel, and that it was part of the British Isles.
