When I was little, I thought people voted by putting out candidates' signs on their lawn. I thought if you put out more signs than you were voting more, and I didn't understand why we only put out 2.

I used to believe that the candidate that lost the Presidential election became the Vice President as a sort of consolation prize. I didn't realize candidates picked their vice presidents ahead of time.

I used to think that if the president (and maybe police officers as well; I don't remember) told anyone to do something, they were required by law to do it.

You know how every state has an official state seal? Until I was in SIXTH grade I thought that every state had a real seal (the animal) at their state capital.
I thought that ex-presidents always had to wear and "X," and if you called them President or ex-President, they would arrest you.
I thought that a President was like an elected dictator who could do anything he wanted and we were just lucky we never got an evil guy as President

I used to believe the whitewater scandal meant a bad person polluted water to make it white. I was very cautious when I turned a faucet or drinking fountain.

When I was in kindergarten I used to believe that George Washington was the first president, Abraham Lincoln was the second and Jimmy Carter was the third. I just could never figure out why they started dressing so differently!

I used to believed that Barbra Bush was the first woman ever created because everyone called her the First Lady during the 1992 election.

As a young child about 8 to 10 yrs. (I'm 57 now and live in north-central B.C. Canada), I used to think a Columnist & a Communist were much the same thing.My mom once mentioned a columnist & I said is she a Communist?

When I was in kindergarten I was terrified of all things Halloween related, thanks to a book called "The House that Drac Built." When the 2000 election between Bush and Gore rolled around, we kindergartners got to vote. As I was scared of "Gore" (meaning blood and guts, as used in that book), I voted for Bush! A couple years later, when my classmates were saying he was a bad president, I was so ashamed because I thought my vote had actually counted and I'd helped elect a bad president. :(

I used to believe that everyone on tv (the news specifically) was famous because they were really great, good people. This is why I carried around a picture of Saddam Hussein with me at school. I wonder why my parents never bothered to stop me from doing this.

When I was a kid I thought that communism was some kind of strawberry ice cream. I came to that conclusion because I overheard adults talking about the Reds and the cold war and the only thing I knew that was red and cold was strawberry ice cream. I couldn't understand why people were afraid of it or against it.
I used to believe for far longer than I care to admit that Sinn Fein was an actual person and was amazed at how much influence he seemed to have. It was a long time efore I realised that it was a political party and the guy who I thought was Sinn Fein was in fact just Jerry Adams.

I recall thinking that the reason the Soviet Union was so evil was that, instead of people choosing their profession like in America, the government decided that for you. (I think this was actually how my dad explained that country to me.)

When I was a kid, I'd heard the words governor and government, which must have pretty much run together for me at one time. By the time I had it correctly figured out that the governor was a single elected official (for any given U.S. state, that is, thought I probably didn't understand that much at the time), I puzzled still over who the government was, thinking that that too must be one particular elected official. I clearly remember thinking, "I know who the governor is, but who is the government?", as if each were one particular person.

At daycare when I was 6, the teachers would leave crackers out on a picnic table in a big bowl for our snack. Seagulls would always fly down, chase us away from the bowl and eat all the crackers. I used to always hear my parents talking about Saddam Hussein. He seemed like a "bad guy" and I thought the seagulls were his army, almost like the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys. I thought that he'd sent them to our daycare steal our snack.

I thought Richard Nixon was God because he could interrupt any TV show, even on public television (this was during Watergate when I was 7 or 8; tricky dick was on TV a lot then)
I used to believe that the leader of a country could get whatever he wanted for free because of patriotism and the fact that he was the leader.
When i was little, my dad always watched the news. I kept hearing things about a black hole in China. And for about a year i thought a black hole had hit China and it had been wiped of the map
