When you're driving on the highway there is this part of the road on the very side that if you drive over it it makes a loud noise to tell the driver that they went over too far. My dad told me it was so that when truckers (or people who'd been driving for a long time) fell asleep It'd make them wake up and start driving again. I thought this until I was 11.
when I was a kid in daycare, my mom sent her boyfriend to pick me up early one day. when we walked out to the parking lot he looked all over for his car and said that somebody must have STOLEN it, so we should STEAL someone else's car to get home.
I didn't realize that he used keys to open up the drivers door of the fancy red car he decided we should "steal". being only 3 or 4 years old, and not getting the joke, I became hysterical and threw a fit. I kept yelling at him saying that stealing was wrong, and I refused to get in the car. He kept trying to calm me down and tell me that his car was in the shop and they loaned him this one for the next few days, but I just wouldn't hear it. I truely believed he was trying to steal a car that wasn't his.
I used to believe that the defroster lines in the back of your car would electrocute you if you touched them. My older sister told me this and I would never go near them.
When I was young, my parents and I often slept over at my grandpa's house; just something fun to do. His house at that time was very close to an airport, and planes often flew low overhead.
Around the time of one of our first sleepovers, I had just heard the story of Moses and the plagues at Sunday school. Specifically, we had read the story where the Angel of Death passed over Egypt, and killed the firstborn in any house that did not have lamb's blood over the door.
I was lying in bed at Grandpa's house that night. It was an especially busy nght for air traffic. I was convinced that the roaring noise I was hearing (plane engines) was the Angel of Death flying over us.
No one in the house got much sleep that night, as I was awake crying in terror that the Angel of Death was going to kill me.
When i was little i used to belevie that there was little tiny people inside the traffic lights controlling them, And whenever i heard about a car accident on the news i though that the little person must ahve fallen asleep.
Well, as we see traffic lights, and street signs i thought they had some that go REALLY high for plane drivers. I thought that whenever you fly over a different country there would be a sign saying Australia, America, Portugal etc.
I used to think that ALL traffic lights were controlled by ONE person!!! I thought that it must be such a hard job to work out which lights had to be what colours!!! I eventually thought that they just each turned red, orange or green for 1 minuite...I only learnt in year 9 that sensors were used!!!
I used to think that if you held a pencil over a piece of paper while you were in a car, you could make a map. Like, when the car turned the pencil would turn!
i used to believe that a civilization of gnomes lived in the traffic lights. I thought it was their job to run around and take care of changing all the lights, kind of like movies where elves run around taking care of Santa's workshops. I thought you could ask them nicely to please change the light for you when it was red. I was disappointed when my dad finally explained electrical signals to me.
I used to believe that the car would automatically slow down when we were close to home because the car knew the way home & so knew when we were near the driveway.
