When my nephew was about 11-12 he asked his grandparents if it did hurt to make love to someone. They answered him: "No, why should it hurt?" He replied "doesn't it hurt when you have to put the balls inside?"

I used to think that when I masturbated I was "giving myself an erection." I'm a girl and was 12 at the time. I eventually learned that women don't get erections. I still laugh about that.

When I was little I caught my parents... well let's just say, in the act, but before they could say anything I ran away.

I thought my dad was trying to kill my mom and was suspicious of him for years! D:

As a young girl who grew up with brothers, I of course saw them take a bath or get a diaper change, so I knew they had different genitals right off the bat. When my mom became pregnant, she also explained, very vaguely, that it took a boy and a girl to make a baby and then mommy carried it in her tummy until it was ready to be born. You'd think that would tell me enough to put two and two together and figure out the actual act but for years I didn't have a clue. I knew it took a penis and a vagina, but as far as I knew, neither of those parts could do anything but pee. I didn't know about erections, or that my body was supposed to fit anything inside it, so I figured that when a girl and boy were ready to have a baby, they got naked, they snuggled and then the boy peed on her. Hey I was pretty darn close if you think about it!

When me and my best friend played with our Barbie dolls at age eleven, we'd make them have soap opera lives (who's marrying who, who had a kid, who finished school)... but when it was time for them to have sex, we would just put Barbie and Ken into their bed in an embrace, pull the covers up over them, and patiently look away for a few minutes, waiting for them to finish whatever it was they were supposed to be doing. Then Barbie would get up and cook in her robe while Ken got dressed.

When I was seven years old I quietly asked my mother, "Is sex illegal?"

I had simply assumed that since so many people treated the subject as taboo, it must mean there were legal consequences for doing it.

I used to believe that when you had sex, it occured at night while you and your mate were asleep. It would happen accidentally, and the mother would just wake up pregnant. My belief was augmented when I asked my father about this and he, acting very uncomfortably, said Ummm... that happens sometimes.

I use to think that rubbing your balls was masterbating. I use to wonder why my friends said they enjoyed it so much. Once I rubbed them for an hour strait and nothing happened so I told my friend what I did and that masterbating didn't work and he hit me upside the head and told me how to really do it.This was in 8th grade.

When I was younger my mom told me that if I had unprotected sex I could get AIDS. What she didn't tell me was that the other person had to have AIDS to spread it to you. I always thought that people who were trying to have children were risking a lot.

When I was around 4, I had heard that sex was a fun, good game where a boy asked to see your privates and then you would say "YOU FIRST" and then he would show and then you. I thought it would make my mom happy to know I had sex, so I walked up to her and told her that me and the neighbor boy had sex. Man we talked for a while after that!

I thought that when gay men had sex they did it by one penis going inside the other!

As a young child, I never paid much attention to the news shows that were on television, but heard them in the background as my parents watched them. For the longest time I thought that Lesbians were a nationality. I suppose I mixed it up with either Libyans or Lebanese. Either way, it was a long time before I found out what a lesbian was.

My parents were always open when I had questions about where I came from. Being so knowledgeable about sex, I thought, very logically, that the word 'sexy' meant someone who liked to have sex a lot.

I must have been told by someone somewhere sometime as a little kid that sex was evil, I mean an illegal, punishable offense.
One day I was playing in the backyard with an older neighbor kid (he was like 13 and I was around 7) and he asked me if I would ever have sex. I was horrified, said NO WAY, sex is bad! LOL Then he said, "Well come on, your parents have had sex, they've had sex 3 times" Being the oldest of 3 siblings I had no idea what he meant but was just so offended that he could accuse my parents of such a thing!

When I was in kindergarten, Magic Johnson had come out saying he had AIDS. I asked my mom how one got AIDS and she told me it was from sleeping with someone of the same sex. I started to freak out because I had spent the night with my girl-friend the other night at a slumber party. I was convinced I had AIDS.

When I was little I used to think that the only times my parents had sex was when my mom got pregnant. So, I thought they had sex a total of 4 times!

When I was about 9 I think, I was watching a TV Show together with my brother. At one moment, the subtitles said something with sex. I knew what sex meant, so I said "OH!" (disapproving). My brother told me that seks (that's how it's written in Dutch, and that's how it appeared in the subtitles, duh:p) didn't have the same meaning as sex, but that it meant "laughing"

I had a book on where babies come from as a little kid, and I remember reading about "the exchange of bodily fluids". I knew that some sort of liquid came out of the man's penis into the woman's vagina during sex. But I couldn't really figure out how some weird new sort of liquid might magically show up, so for years I believed that boys just peed into girls during sex!
