This was way back when I was 11 years old. One of my friends told me that a person could have sex only once a year. And you know what......I completely believed him and held on to that belief for another 4 years (stupid stupid me !!!)
When I was about six, I asked my Mom where babies come from. She gave me a reasonably detailed explanation, including how sex works. Except she never explained that the guy's ... um ... penis has to be ... well ... erect. So I used to believe that sex involved trying to get an essentially flaccid and floppy object into a small space. Kind of like threading a needle!
When I was about 14 yrs. old I had 2 best friends that were older and more worldly than I. On the way home from school one day, they asked me if I had heard about our fellow student who's boy friend "knocked her up". Thoroughly confused, I thought they said he "locked her up" and proceeded to spout off about how that was illegal and her parents had better do something quick. Even worse, when they were done laughing and repeated the sentence to me..I STILL didn't have a clue.
When I was 10, I knew that sex was inserting the penis into the vagina, but I thought that then the couple just rested like that, and that was sex. When my brother told me a joke about "going in-and-out", I thought he was so dumb. "Nuh-uh", I said, "only dogs do it that way!"
When I was about 11 my older brothers found a porno movie in my parents bedroom and made me watch it. WEll, being completely naive about sex at that time, when the man ejaculated, i exclaimed, " He's peeing on her!!!!!" My brothers started cracking up and to this day (and I am almost 30) I have not lived that down. Of course it's one story my parents never knew about, because it would mean admitting snooping in their bedroom!!!!
Until I was about 8 I thought getting horney meant a horn would grow from your head and the only way to get rid of it was to have sex.
i used to believe having sex was when a boy a girl would lay on top of each other with all they're clothes on and the boy on top would bounce on her and it was supposed to feel really good.
I used to believe that people made babies by pressing belly buttons.
Before I actually knew what being gay meant, I thought that gay boys would get together with gay girls and I would always wonder why they had to single themselves out as being gay.
My mother's solution to making me not have sex at a young age was to tell me reapeatedly while I was growing up how absolutely HORRIBLE sex was and that it was no fun at all and that I'd hate it and it was gross and that boys looked really weird without their clothes on. She did it very effectively, I was quite frightened.
I avoided the opposite sex for a very long time
When I was in elementary school, they gave us a very very basic sex ed class. This included labeling anatomical diagrams. This did not include the concept of an erection. Thus, it was a few years before I realized that it didn't require you to be in a position that shoved your feet in each other's faces.
When I was young I thought sex happened on accident. So people could be kissing or talking and then after a while one of them would be like, "oh, I think we just had sex". I thought that because I knew how sex worked I just didn't know why so I asked my mom. She said it just happenes and that really scared me, sex could happen at any time. Boy was I surprised when I flipped through a friend's romance novel.
I had my first orgasm when I was 13, and I was terrified that I had broken something... I was scared for months afterwards.
I used to believe that the vagina was just a huge circle in the middle of the body. In health in fifth grade, they said that a penis goes into the vagina, which is a hole in the girls body, and sperm comes out. Until i started watching late-night HBO, i thought that during sex, the penis would go into the hole, and ejaculate without touching the sides, kindof like operation.
yea so i just turned 16 and last year near homecoming [14] i was getting my nails done, and then i picked up this magazine for woman [in the middle of the table, why it was there, no idea] and i turned the page to find in big letters G-SPOT, and i was like "Mom whats a G-spot?" in front of everyone, i have never seen her turn so red&&quiet and so many giggling woman...
when we were in the car she told me what a gspot was, how it was "a girl part that makes you sexually pleasured" and i thought i got it after that...but i didnt..
so a few days later were dropping off my friend when my mom brought up the story with the g-spot, then i was like "Yea my g-spot is right here" then i pointed at my neck [i get turned on when kissed right there] and then my friend looked at me weird and it took me 5 seconds to laugh and go haha just kidding.
i didnt learn what a g-spot was until i read a romance story saying what it was...
I used to think that a man and woman had sex by rolling around in bed together.
So I was afraid to have sleepovers with my boy cousin
until just last year i thought sodomy was somehow related to the bible and that it wasn't anything to do with what it really is. I made the mistake of asking my very religious grandmother what it meant. that was a very awkward conversation...
i used to think that after people had sex they died, so when my sister and i happened upon mom and dad in bed, they were pretending to be asleep when we opened the door, i started crying and convinced my sister they died.
she started screaming and crying then we ran around the house freaking out until my mom miraculously came back to life wearing a bath robe and calmed us down...my sister still kicks me for it.
i used to think you had sex by kissing
I used to believe that when people had sex, they just got naked and kissed under the covers. My mother explained how sex worked to me at a young age, but the real image I got was from watching my grandma's soap operas.
