When my sister was little, she used to suck her thumb. My mom and dad tried to get her out of the habit, so my older sister and I figured we'd help... and give her nightmares.
We told her a story about a man who sucked his thumb and about how he was homeless because nobody liked him for it. We told of how one day, he had to go to the hospital beacuse his thumb started bleeding and how it fell off. Everday, we would add on to the story of this man's thumb. To this day, she won't even look at her thumb.

When I was little I would always be sucking on my thumb. I couldn't fall asleep without sucking on it. But one day my mom and my dad sat me down and told me if I didn't stop I would have teeth like bugs bunny. This scared me but I still continued to do it. They tried everything from putting pepper on it to making me wear mittins. I guess they were right about the bugs bunny teeth, because here I am at 16 still sucking my thumb and I have buck teeth. (I still need to suck my thumb to be able to fall asleep at night) Shhhhhhhh!

When I was young, my grandmother always told me if I sucked my thumb my teeth would fall out. The day I went for my first dental appointment she pulled her dentures out and said take these for a checkup. I promise, thumbsucking ended immediately. Boy I miss her. What could she tell my bugar picking daughter?

i though that if u suck your thumb you color of your skin will go away. I also though it would shirnk so i always mesured it everyday but still I didnt care , my dad always told me that if I kept sucking it my thumb would come off,i was kinda scared but then i just didnt care and today i still suck my thumb and is very amusing and kinda tasty even though it doesnt have a "special taste" that i can tell you.

It was either my Mother or Grandmother who told me when I was very young that if I didn't stop sucking my thumb, it would make my thumbs go flat. They did! Of course, it may just be genetics, but it still didn't stopped me and now I'm 26! Who needs round thumbs anyway?

I used to suck my thumb whilst rubbing cotton wool on my nose (bit wierd). A teacher at school told me that I was inhaling all the cotton wool fibres which would suffocate me during the night. I didn't believe her until one night I had a terrible chest infection. I remember waking up screaming because I thought I was going to die from sucking my thumb! Eek, gives me shivers even now.

I used to have a major problem with sucking my thumb. Well one day my dad got annoyed with it and told me a story.. "If you suck it too much, you will gnaw off the skin on your thumb and only your bones will be left!!!!" Well that night I immediatly wrapped a sock around my hand and slept with my hand under my pillow to resist the urge!.. I am proud to admit that I havent sucked my thumb since then!:P
