when I was a little girl, I used to put my ponytail in my mouth and suck the hair (disgusting, I know). My older brothers wanted to make me stop, so they made up a story about a girl who had a horrible stomach ache so she had to go through a surgery. When the doctor opened up her stomach there was a ball of hair inside. They scared the hell out of me :)

I always thought that rubbing shampoo on someplace other than my hair would allow me to grow hair in that particular region

When I was younger (19 now) I used to believe eyebrows never grew back. So when I saw movies where people somehow got their eyebrows removed I was scared for them so I pretended it was fake and they didn't actually get removed.

When I was little, my mother told me that if I chewed on my hair, it would turn green because of a special shampoo she bought. I believed her for many years.

I used to think that rat tails—those weird little long pieces of braided hair stemming out of an otherwise short haircut—were a disease! They just looked so unnatural to me, and when I was in second grade and I saw this boy on the playground who had one, I ran away from him for fear of "catching" his rat tail. I would constantly stare at the backs of people's necks, worrying that they were beginning to catch it and soon a big ugly rat tail would sprout out, and I wanted to ask my parents if a cure for rat tails had been found yet but I was too scared!

It wasn't until around sixth grade that it finally dawned on me that it was just a very bizarre style choice.

When I was about 7 or 8 we had neighbors and all the kids had red hair. They also ate Ketchup on EVERYthing, and I thought that was why they had red hair.

When I was younger I believed a man's moustache was grown from the hair in his nose and not from the skin on his upper lip.

When I was young I used to believe that your head was full of hair all twisted up and when your hair grew it was because it was coming out of your head and people got bald because eventually the hair ran out!

When I was younger, I used to think that moustaches were just very long nose hairs.

I used to think that when people dyed their hair it would continue to grow that color forever. I think I thought this until I was 11 or 12, when I read that someone had dyed their hair red semi-permanently, and I spent days figuring out how that was possible.

When I was a kid, I believed that when you got old your hair not only turned white or gray but also automatically became short and puffy, because that was how the older women in my family wore theirs.

When we were small my brother wouldn't use the shampoo in our shower because it was for "Permed Hair" and he didn't want curly hair. :)

when I was little, some college kids lived next door. One girl I was friends with had short hair, but came home day with really long hair. I asked if they glued on each hair individually, and she said yes. For years I thought people would sit for hours having individual hairs glued on to make their hair longer.

I used to think that toothpaste could double as hairgel too, and would go around, proud of my slick and shiny hair. This worked well until one day, my cousin, who was 4 years older than me, suddenly noticed than my hair was filled with white goo.

And the rest, my dears, is history.

Until I was about 12-13 years old I was scared to touch an electric guitar. Everyone I knew or saw on tv that was touching one had really big hair. I thought I would get electrocuted. And my hair would look like that.

When I was little, my mom used to say people with with curly hair are smart. I was born with curly hair along with my dad (which made me thought I was blessed to be born smart), but other than that everyone in my family has straight hair. I was told that that when people get smarter, their hair curls and when people get dumber, their hair goes straight or lose curls. Then it was time for me to get my first haircut, a buzzcut and I never wanted to because I was afraid I will lose my curls and lose my memory but then my hair grew back along with the curls. Now I realize that hair has nothing to do with how smart or dumb you are...wow..

When I was little I thought that adult men either grew a beard, mustache, or neither, since my Dad always had the same facial hair. I prayed I'd never grow any.

Now I have a full beard.

My sister told me that when you add water to hair, the hair turns into a water worm. She even demonstrated by plucking off a piece of my hair and turning the tap on in the sink. Lo and behold the hair started squirming! I didn't bathe for two weeks because I didnt want my hair to turn into hundreds of water worms!
