A friends mum's told us that ice cream vans played their tune only when they were empty. It was like a siren so people would stay out of their way while they went and collected more ice cream.

I used to believe that the Mr Whippy van played the Greensleeves music when he had sold out of all the icecream! My father was such a cheap bastard.
