I have seen others that said that said that they had been told that if you put salt on a birds tail you could catch it. Apparently this was a long tradition in my family and that both my father and his father (born in 1900) had done the same. I took my turn when I was about 4/5 and my brother, who is 8 years younger did the same when he was that age.

I stood with my parents and laughed hysterically and imagined what I must have looked like to have tried that. A few minutes later though my parents got the biggest shock of their lives. After about five minutes running and shaking salt my brother returned with a bird! As my parents had promised that he could keep the bird if he caught it they had to go buy a cage and food.

We had the bird for about a year and my mom got really tired of it and decided to let it go while my brother was at school. When he came home she told him that a man had come around asking if they had any birds for sale and offered her a dollar, which she promptly gave to him. As his allowance was 5 cents a week he was thrilled.

A few minutes later he came in from the backyard with a salt shaker in one hand and a different bird in the other! My mom had to tell him that they only needed one bird and that he could not keep this one. My brother is still fantastic with animals and could probably catch a 3rd if he tried.

I used to believe that you could just choose what gender your dog or cat was - like if you said it was a boy, it was male, and if you said it was a girl, it was female.

Until I was 10 (Im 12 now), I used to believe all dogs were female and all cats were male (It's the other way around, strange isnt it?). I even drew a picture of a female dog showing her mate (a cat) that she had his children, and her children were not mixed, the boy babies were kittens and the girl babies were puppies. And also, in that picture, the parents and the babies had there own blankets (The mother dog's blanket was red, the father cat's blanket was blue, the puppies had pink blankets, the kittens had blue blankets.) And the babies were in what appeared to be a dog or cat bed. I also drew a picture of a female dog and a male cat getting married. My sister, on the other hand used to believe all dogs were boys and all cats were girls thanks to some cartoons. She even drew a picture of a dog, a cat, and their babies just like mine. Except the cat was the mother.

I thought that rats were boys and mice were girls, and that colts were an entirely different animal from a horse. I also thought that parakeets and canaries were the same animal.

I used to think that lizards had houses just like people's houses, only smaller. For some reason, I thought at least some of those houses were right under the sidewalk in my front yard.

I thought Spongebob's parents were cookies (they looked a lot like it) and I wondered why two cookies could have a kid that was a Sponge.

I used to believe you could fly if you were sprinkled with the White powder on butterfly wings

When I was at my grandma's house as a little kid, I was standing outside near a power pole one afternoon when I heard a cicada start to sing. I'd never heard one before, and since I couldn't see the bug, I thought it was the power pole making that strange buzzing noise!

When I was in the third-grade, my teacher told me that we were adopting a manatee. We had to donate a dollar so we could adopt her. I was so excited and waited every day for the tank to arrive. (I also imagined places in the classroom where we could put it.)At the end of the year I asked her why the tank still wasn't here, because she had told us that manatees need to live in water and swim around. Then she told me that we weren't actually getting a manatee and that we were just donating money to help her. I was very disappointed that day.

When I was younger me and my two sisters used to believe in an imaginary dog. It looked like the dog off Dr.Who and it used to chase us in our bedroom and we had to climb up to the top of our bunk beds to runaway from it. I can remember once when we all were sat on our bedroom floor, then we sensed that the robot dog was coming so me and my sisters ran to our bunk bed ladder and i was the last one to climb up it, on the 2nd step the dog grabbed hold of my foot with its mouth. Then it began to drag me away and so my sisters started throwing toys at it and that is all we can remember. It used to come nearly everyday and we all can remember climbing on to the window still and throwing toys at it. It was probably all our imagination but it felt so real and we all remember it.

Having no understanding of relative weight and lift, as a little kid I was convinced that if you could snag a bird in something like a bag and hold on to it, you'd be lifted along with it when it tried to fly upward. Fortunately, I never had occasion to test this.

I used to believe when i lost a tooth, if i put this under my pillow, a mouse called Perez will take this in the night and it exchange this for money
But that belief changed when I grew up, because I realized that there was no mouse, but it was my parents who caught the tooth and gave me money.
This left me very sad but at the same time amused me to know how my parents tricked me
I would again ask a girl to find my parents and to get more money for my teeth.

I thought that if I left plastic Easter eggs out overnight, God would make them hatch into plastic dinosaurs. My parents may have encouraged this belief for a few weeks...
