I once thought that when cats curled up into a ball to fall asleep, that they were then "stuck" like that for at least a few minutes, which is why they had to stretch when they woke up. I also thought that when a cat was asleep curled up in this way, they looked just like Russian hats. I thought that since my cat was curled in a ball fast asleep, I had just enough time to put her on top of my head and turn her into a Russian hat. My cat put a quick stop to this notion by immediately running down my back with her claws out.

I used to think House Finches were baby birds and they'd later grow into Robins or something
When I was 5,I got a poison ivy rash. When I got better I remembered the place where I got it.I caught a grasshopper.I took it to the place where the poision ivy was.I wanted to see if the grasshopper would get it also.I had to climb on an old log so as not to touch the poison ivy.I thought there was a fly by the old log.It was not.I was sitting on a bee's nest.Hundreds of bees came out.Needless to say I walked a half mile to the nearest house with bees on me everywhere. When I banged on the door the lady whom answered started swatting me with a dish towel.Soon my father heard the noise and came over with a garden hose.I spent a few days in the hospital.Had 75 stingers removed and the doctor said I had 100 more stings.Grasshoppers don't get poison ivy rash!!
When I was as little, my friend and I used to collect dead butterflies from her greenhouse and put the dust from the wings on our arms and jump off the top of the steps, thinking we could fly.
We used to catch dogfish in the Great Lakes when I was a child. This old-timer fishing next to me one day said if I heard one bark, it meant I was going to die. I cut the line when a dogfish was on after that.
I had a dog (yellow lab named Luci) that was sick. The vet prescribed Prednizone for her. When I was told she needed this I was mortified because she had been spayed (traumatized me!!) and that no animal had been near her pregnant zone!! Imagine my embarrassment when everyone laughed hysterically at me. :(

I was told that white eggs were all painted, while brown eggs were natural. It took a trip out of the country to realize that white eggs occur in nature too.
I remember asking my father once driving down a gravel road in the country what that noise was against the side of the car, he told me it was squirrels throwing nuts at the car, I looked hard at the nearby trees and thought squirrels were very territorial. I still do.
When I was a youngster, my grandfather told me that if a snapping turtle bites someone it would hold on and not let go until it thundered. I was an outdoors kid so I was always super careful when I saw and wanted to catch a snapper.
I used to believe that all swimming pools had trap doors to release sharks, like that Bond film. I persuaded myself that I was a prototype human, made by aliens/gods (presumably depending on how many additives I'd ingested). They had made me to check if humans were good or not before making any more. Everyone else on earth was a robot.
The aliens/gods had realised that we were no good from my example and the shark pool was their way of taking out the trash.
I always used to watch Snow White and Bambi. I thought that in "olden days," wild animals were never afraid of people, like in Snow White, but because people hunted them too much over the years, they learned to be afraid of people. I was always mad with generations past because I wanted to make friends with deer like Snow White was.
When I was 5 or 6, I had already been introduced to the internet.
So I was on this knockoff, unofficial, foreign " DISNEY MANIA ROOMMAKER " and I spotted a little pixel sprite of a male character eating asian food. I automatically titled the food as " Disney Food " which was served as Disneyland { I had never been there before, so of course I wouldn't know }. And then the animation depicted him burping after taking a bite. I thought he was sighing, so I assumed it was nasty. A few minutes later, I walk up to my older sister, who was 15 at the time, and asked her " Is Disney Food nasty? " She was puzzled and ready to laugh but she just said " No. " with a grin.

I used to believe that horses were born as foals (babies), then turned into ponys (kids) and then a horse (grown ups).
I thought that dungeness crabs lived in dungeons!
When I was a child I used to believe that when I went to my grandmother's house I could talk with cows, chickens and pigs and they could understand me.
My mom told me that when I was child I used to believe that my Barbies could sleep at night so I used to take them to bed.
I thought velvet fabric was made of cats' ears.
I used to think that Kittens and Cats were completely separate animals, by watching cartoons, I got the impression that Kittens were cute lovable creatures and Cats are viscous monsters. I always used to say "I want a Kitten, but I don't want a Cat".
