I belived that all cats were girls and dogs were boys. Cats are more girly maybe?
When I was a kid, I had a cat who ended up turning rabid. My parents insisted they take it to a "farm" to live happily in the open planes. I believed them until I was my mid-teens, then was devastated to learn what really happened.

When I was little, my grandpa told me that we could grow worms (using a bucket full of dirt and sprinkle sugar on top). Everytime I went there I would see the worms. Didnt know until later that he would run into the garden before I showed up to dig them up

We thought dogs were boys and cats were girls.
I once heard somewhere a statistic about ducks flying into airplanes. Somehow I got it in my head that ducks could fly faster than airplanes. I used to ride in the plane and look out the window for ducks to flap on by. I was always amazed at how fast they were. In 10th grade, I said it out loud to someone for the first time, and realized how silly it was!
When I was younger I always wanted to pick my cat up but she was always too fast and got away before I could grab her. I thought that if a stayed really still for a few minutes she would think I was a statue and I would be able grab her before she could get away. I remember doing this right up until I was about 10...oh dear.
When I was little, I remember being told that birds fly south for the winter. Up until about 3rd grade I thought they flew ALL THE WAY south- to Antarctica. I wondered why they've leave Indiana in the fall to go somewhere even colder.
When I was about 8 or nine years old, my cousin told me that if you screamed at a roach it would die. I can just imagine what everyone thought when I was screaming in the bathroom!
When I was around 6 or 7, my Grandmother told me that a friend of hers had been stung by a hummingbird and almost died. It wasn't until I was in my late teens that I found out that hummingbirds don't sting!
I used to believe that if you cut an earthworm in half that it created two new worms. I was told this by my neighbor after I accidently cut a worm in half while digging in the ground and started crying. I belived this into my 20s.
I used to believe that that people were saying "kitty glitter" instead of "kitty litter". So I bugged my dad for months until he finally agreed to get one, as long as I was the one who dealt with the (g)litterbox. I wholeheartedly agreed and we finally got the cat. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed when i found out that cats did not actually come with a box of glitter to play with......
When i was little i used to be TERRIFIED of thunder and lightening. but my grandpa told me it was just penguins bowling in the north pole and every time they got a strike there would be thunder. i believed him for the longest time.
When I was a boy my grandfather told me that I could catch wild rabbits with salt. Needless to say his entire backyard was spotted with paper towels layed out filled with piles of salt. Did come close to catching one one time..LOL

When I was little I must have asked my dad why birds don't get electrocuted when they sit on the wires. His answer was "because the electricty only runs on the bottom of the wires". I believed that well into my 20's until I learned differently!
When I was 5 or so, my dad told me that if you caught a squirrel by the tail it would pop off and the squirrel would run away and hide until it grew a new tail.
