When I was a little girl we had a pediatrician named Dr. Chua. My brother called her Dr. Chew-A-Bone. Because of this I pictured my doctor as a large St. Bernard in a lab coat! I believed she was dog!
As a kid I had heard that if you feed birds uncooked rice or alka seltzer they would explode. I thought it meant they would explode like a bomb with fire and shrapnel.
About six years ago I went with my family to Sea World in Orlando. We had fun walking around and whatnot. Then we went to the penguin exhibit and I saw all the little birds scurrying around and exclaimed "Look at all the baby penguins! Aren't they cute?"
My husband and son began laughing at me.
I learned that day that penguins do not, in fact, grow to be as large as people. I was 52 years old.
i used to believe in evil demon rats that were like the size of a microwave and had red eyes. my brother told me they hid under the couch and if i got too close they would eat me
The logo for the US postal service in the late 80's and 90's was a profile of a bald eagle. I could never see the eagle properly. I thought it was a really crappy abstraction of an eagle head with the tip of the wing as the nose, the rest of the wing as the head, and the body and head as the collar (cause the eagle was wearing a collared shirt, of course!) It wasn't until I was 12 that I suddenly realized it really was an eagle.

I used to believe that ants in an ant colony wore colonial style clothing because the only other colonies I knew of at the time were the American ones.
When I was young I believed rabbit holes were complete with fireplaces and carpeting or hard-wood floors and a little quilt on a little bed. I used to imagine that when people weren't around, rabblit's put on tweed sweaters and suspenders like in Beatrix Potter's illustrations.
after i saw the movie all dogs go to heaven i never wanted to let my dog out of my sight!
I used to believe that the manhole covers with the initials CATV was actually saying 'Cat Tv' and i though it was a little pull-out television in catonese (the language of cats) that they could watch.
Heh Heh Heh... catonese.....how imaginative i was, back then.

I used to believe…
that cats were only girls and dogs were only boys. I definetly didn't get the whole reproducing thing yet.
I used to believe that if you plucked a leaf off a bush and carefully removed all of the greenery, except for the main part of the leaf - I guess the stem of the leaf, that the stem would then turn into a caterpillar. It just seemed completely logical at the time. I used to walk home from school, creating caterpillars from overhanging trees and shrubs.
i used to believe a dog was the male version of a cat.
When I was around 4 or 5, i saw this 2 dogs having sex and wonder how they got "glued" together afterwards. So one day I asked my grandma and she told me that someone had put chewing gum in between them and got them "glued". I totally believed her!
i used to believe that when a dog grewn big enough he could turn into a horse.
When i would see a really big dog i would tell my mum: "big dog almost horse". My mum kept telling me the dog wasn't, but i just new he would! i kept this going till i was about 6 years old.
My babysitter told me the Reason people would "watch you like a hawk" was because hawks loved the taste of toddler meat.. and would swoop down when hungry and carry you off..

My cat acts like she's bipolar. One moment she's nice and the next she'll attack out of nowhere. So when I was little, I didn't think both sides of her personality could possibly be the same cat so I figgured we had 2 cats, that looked exactly the the same, and while one was out wondering the house, the other was hiding in the basment, so we could never see them both at the same time.
When i was about 5 years old my mom told me opossums were the little faces in trees, but i thought she meant how the leaves kinda look like faces altogether.I was looking at the tree all night and crying.
