Cats and dogs are the same species

When I was little we had a dog and a cat. I thought dogs were boys and cats were girls so I thought that dogs and cats got married. I didn't think that 2 dogs could marry without being gay and 2 cats would be lesbians. I was later told that both of our pets were female and I was disappointed as that would mean they couldn't have baby kittens/dogs.

I also thought that only cats were female and only dogs were male. I guess its because cats at so feminine and loving, but dogs are boisterous etc. Plus, it doesn't help a childs imagination when you only have female cats and male dogs. Its great to here I wasn't the only one!

As a child, I thought that all dogs were 'boys' and all cats were 'girls', and when they got married and had children, they would have a mixture of puppies and kittens.

Unclear on the concept

All the males I knew were loud and played rough while females were quiter and alot more gentle. Since dogs had rough hair, barked loudly and seemed to be aggresive. All cats had soft smooth fur and they were quiet and gentle. So I thought all dogs were males while all cats were females.

When I was little I used to believe that all dogs were male, and all cats were female... and when they'd have babies together, and cats would have litters of both puppies and kittens of course.

When I was small I thought that cats were female and dogs were male and they got married...sometimes having kittens and sometimes having puppies.

i used to believe that all dogs were males and all cats were females...their litters would be a mix of the two. i was probably 12 or so before this no longer seemed strange. crazy huh?

I used to believe that all dogs were male and all cats were female. When a dog and a cat got together to make a baby, if it was a girl it would be a kitten, and if it was a boy it was a puppy.

When I was little, we had 3 cats and they were all female. My uncle had a dog that was male. Since I didn't know any male cats or female dogs, I thought all cats were girls and all dogs were boys.

I used to believe that cats were girls and dogs were boys. When I discovered that you needed one of each to make babies, I had visions of mummy cats with mixed litters of kittens and puppies.

I thought I was alone in thinking that all cats were female and all dogs were male, but I see now what a common belief it is for kids. I now have seven cats, male and female, but I refer to all of them as "she".

Like many people on this site, I used to believe that all cats were female and all dogs were male. The weird thing is, my family had both cats and dogs, and my parents showed us kittens and puppies being born, and taught us how to tell between girls and boys, but I still sort of believed it.
