I remember myself being around 5 years old when this happened. Sometimes at night, while sleeping in my little crib, I would hear a chain dragged on the hallway outside my room, in the middle of the night. You can imagine the sound, a metalic sound. This kept happening until I was 8 or 9 years old, and I was always horrified by it so I never told anybody about it. I always thought there was an evil ghost there and if i get out of my room it would take me with it. sometimes i would even cry. It all stopped when I became old enough to face it, just to discover it was actually the refrigerator warming up or cooling down, and the sound was made by it's pump.

My mom used to tell us that if we didn't clean up our toys, the vacuum cleaner would suck them up forever. This strategy was a little too effective, because I thought it even applied to large objects like my playsets, and I was even afraid it would suck me up if I got in the way, so I would always run away and hide whenever my mom was vacuuming

I used to believe that the sound of white noise at night was men in my basement marching and they were going to come and get me.

I used to believe that there was an giant hole right under the bathtub, which is where all the used water would go.

I used to believe that the dishwasher filled all the way up with water when it was used, like an oldschool washing machine, and if you opened it mid-cycle it would flood the house.

In 2nd grade, my friend Jessica told me if I called 1800-HEAVEN, I could talk to anybody who has went to heaven. This also meant I could call 1800-Santa/Tooth-Fairy/Easter Bunny. I immediately rushed home and began to call all these numbers, only to find out the reality of it was, there was no such thing

When I was about 5, there was a commercial for a program about undersea life that often aired when I was watching. It showed a big, red octopus that both terrified and fascinated me. Somehow, I became convinced that the octopus lived in my bed and that sleeping curled up in a little ball was the only way I could prevent the octopus from eating my feet.

when i was child, i believed there was a ghost in a toilet....
the ghost made me very scared, the face is very dark with the flying body without the feet

When I was 4/6 I used to always just leave my stuffed animals around my bed, and at night when I tried to go to sleep I would try really hard to not look beside or under my bed. If I did look under my bed (remember I always left my stuffed animals there) I would imagine that their eyes were glowing red and I would keep expecting them to jump at me, I was the kind of kid that believed in lots of stuff

This goes back to the early 50's. I remember asking my mother how the radio worked (before we had a TV). She said it worked with tubes. I puzzled with that and I imagined a room with walls of tiny hoses or tubes that the announcers spoke into. The tubes must have carried their voices to each person's radio. I had to believe it - my mother told me it was so!

when i was a kid i used to think that when someone flushed a toilet while you were in the shower, the dirty toilet water would pour on you.

I never used to believe in monsters however i believe that all these kids that believe in monsters under the bed are telling the truth as why do they all report the same occurence a monster that will grab their feet or arms its gotta be more than coincidense also i actually saw the monster under my bed and i have an excellent ability to recall in detail events that happened to me when i was younger than 4 anyways i looked under the bed and saw a dark shape sort of furry but had brilliant white eyes and a large cheshire cat grin whith white teeth just lying under the bed grinning at me strangely i wasnt too afraid i also saw small figures standing on the windowsill behind the curtain and i can recall everything down to the placement of furniture and the colour of the walls and to this day and im 21 i still run and jump into bed and tuck the blanket under my body even though i cant rationalise it i get a real feeling of terror and of being watched every night

when I was a kid I turned off the bathroom light and run away in fear of the devil

I was about 9 years old when I saw chunky in my doll house one night when I couldn't sleep. I had the nightlight on and I saw him there watching me sleep. I was so terrified and i couldn't move. I kept trying to make myself believe it was just my imagination but it was so clear. I starred at chucky so long I remembered what he looked like. It took all my courage to run out of my room. I never told anyone In fear of being made fun of. One night my best friend slept over and she said she saw it in the closet just watching us sleep. She never told me until the second time she saw it sitting at the end of my bed watching us sleep again. She said, "I knew i wasn't crazy because It was the second time I saw It". We were both terrified when we found out that we had seen it. To this day I wonder what it was, I thought chucky was a fake movie I'd never been scared of a doll. I know what I saw..

This is sort of a double belief, since one misbelief led to the other.

When I was little, I believed that whenever you plug something in (to an electrical outlet) it would do something special - turn on, make noise, light up, etc. So I would plug random things in to "see what they did". And not just plugs... but l would literally stick random small objects into outlets. Unfortunately, this exploration ended abruptly when I wanted to see what mom's car keys did when I plugged them into the wall. It was some pretty epic fail.

After explaining why "electric" just shocked me and that it travels by metal, and that there were metal wires in our walls carrying electric everywhere, I became deathly afraid of taking baths and showers. I believed that while I was in the shower one of these wires might tough a metal pipe and zap me again. I would bathe as quickly as possible in fear the whole time and sometimes I would just turn the water on and let it run for awhile so my mom could hear and think I was bathing.

My sister told me that telephone poles got medals for being the best telephone poles. I believed her for years. Turns out, they were serial numbers.
