When I was younger, I went to the local youth club with my best friends. The girl's toilets were seperated into two rooms - one room with the actual toilets, and another room with a small shelf and a HUGE mirror. A girl called Mary Jane told everybody that she went into the mirror room once with the lights off and said "Candyman" 3 times, and she claimed that when you did this, you could see a ghostly image of the candyman over your left shoulder, brandishing a knife.

I never went in there after that.

I used to believe that if you stared into a mirror for too long, the devil would start staring back at you! My mom told me this as I was quite a vain child and spent hours gazing into the mirror! Now, I still don't pause too long, you can never be too careful!

In Grade School, we had old mirrors that slightly doubled the image. When washing my hands, I checked myself in the mirror. I noticed a 'ghostly' double image, and because I was really sick, I thought I was dying, and that was my ghost. I had a panic attack and passed out, only to have laied there for 10 minutes until a student and thier mother found me. They claimed I looked dead and ran for help. I had gone to the hospital, and when I returned, the student was shocked to see me 'alive'. I had thought I was a zombie for years, because when I checked the mirror last, the double image had disapeered! [They had gotten new mirrors when I left]

When i was younger, there was a vary old and "scary" lady across the street. I thought that if you went into the bathroom after midnight and said her name 10 times, she would come out and kill you. my friends dared me to do it, and i went into the bathroom, got freaked out, and upon trying to open the door found that it was locked, i had no way of turning on the lights because the switch was outside the door. i stayed there the whole night because i wouldn't say the old lady's name.

When I was about eight my cat died and my sister told me that when something dies the ghost goes straight to the closest mirror. (she believed this too). So when I looked in the mirror i'd say hi to my cat

When my friend and I played outside at my Granny's house, we would look in her bedroom mirror and get scared to death at the strange people that were in there. One day we got brave enough to tell my Granny and when she came outside to see what we were talking about, she started laughing hysterically as she saw us looking at ourselves in the mirror of her vanity. We didn't look like ourselves when looking through the slats of the blinds!

when i was about 6 - 7, i beleived that if you turned off the light and said *candyman* 5 times. then the candyman would jump out of the mirror and give you a poisened candy cane. and if you ate it, when you went to sleep, you would dream that the candyman would scratch you with big freddy creuger nails, and you would wake up with the scratches. then after a few weeks of having the candyman dreams, candyman would kill you.
(this was origionally a scary story told to me by a baby sitter) friends used to scare my by locking me in the bathroom with the lightswitch outside and telling me that i had to say it before they let me out. because i was afraid of the dark at the time, i said it. i was so scared.

When I was little, I used to read a lot of ghost stories, and of course, a lot of these stories dealt with mirrors and things behind them. I had a door leading straight to the family bathroom and besides the monster under my bed (we'll get to that in another anecdote), I thought that if I opened that door (which had the HUGE mirror directly on the other side) I would see SOMETHING with red eyes.

When I was 3 I used to believe that when two mirrors face each other causing that effect where it looks like a neverending sequence of mirrors, that it would be possible to fall into the mirror and be trapped in there, so every time I saw that in the bathroom when the mirror on the door and the bathroom mirror faced each other, I would run.

I used to (and still to this day) have this unnatural fear that Hotel mirrors are one-way mirrors containing hidden cameras on the other side and that someone is watching me. I have a very hard time undressing in front of hotel mirrors. Sometimes I even talk to them just in case someone is listening! Strange...

I used to really want to see what I looked like when my eyes were looking to the side. So I'd look into the mirror and look to the side, then as fast as I could, I would look back to see if I could catch a glimpse of myself with my eyes looking the other way.
