I used to suck my thumb and my dentist always told me not to. One time she mentioned that my teeth were becomming the same shape as my thumb. Of couse she meant my teeth were starting to stick out to fit my thumb, but I thought she meant my two front teeth looked like thumbs. I was self-concious of my thumb-shaped teeth for years!!

I used to believe…
My oldest sister (who is about 18 years older than myself) would visit a lot when I was a kid and told me the there was an evil snail with HUGE teeth up my nose that would eat my finger off if I picked it. I believe that until I was about 10 years old!

My late granda only had half a ring finger on his left hand. I once asked how he'd lost his finger. Granda told me that it happened cos he picked nose so much, so it would happen to me someday.
So, Christmas 2005, my granda's funeral. My brother and I are sitting side by side in the front row, when I stick my finger up my nose. The minister was talking about the accident when my granda lost half his finger (car jack colllapsed) and I remembered what he'd said to me that day. I could hardly hold myself together, neither could my brother when I told him.
I think this is because of those chocolate cigarettes you can get, but I used to think that all cigarettes were chocolate. When trying to eat one of my nana's as a child, I still didn't catch on and figured you had to set it on fire to make it taste like chocolate.
I used to believe…
When i was a little boy, I kept seeing people covering the lighter with their hands while lighting a cigerette. I used to believe they were hiding the fire from me because i was little. I remember always wanting to say, "it's ok, I don't mind the fire".
LOL
Little Logic
i am now 13 years old and i still suck thumb which sounds ridiculous i know but that didnt stop me neither did the endless stories i got told. it wasn't that i didnt believe them i was young and gullable i just didnt care and wanted to see what would happen & if they were REALLy telling the truth.
One of the stories was that if i sucked my thumb for long enough my teeth would stick out and eventually my whole body would turn into bugs bunny. That sounded really cool to a young girl so i was kinda dissappointed when it didnt happen .

i used to think that if you bit your fingernails, and chewed them it would form a bone in your stomache, and eventually your dog is gonna want to eat that bone!
I used to believe…
When i was young, my parents told me that boogers were part of your brain, so to stop me from picking my nose. Logically, i thought that if i ate them, they would just go back into my brain, and no harm done. needless to say, i never wanted to blow my nose, because then that part of my brain would be lost forever!
I used to believe…
When I was little I used to pick my nose and put my finger in my mouth and then repeat.(Sort of like eating a booger, but more like licking it) This was a bad habit for me,but I really wanted to stop becuase I used to think a huge booger ball was slowly forming in my stomach and that eventually it would kill me.

For some reason, I thought that all people who smoked pipes were ugly and very bad (like child-killer bad). Maybe this was instilled by movies? Not sure, but it was scary.

My Mum used to tell me that if I picked my nose, it would cave in. I have a memory of waking up one day and my nose was full of dried mucus. I obviously had a cold with a blocked nose but I believed my Mum's prophercy had come true. I never picked it again (until I was older.)
I used to believe…
When I was little, about six or seven, my best girlfriend and I would pick up cigarette butts off the ground and if they had lipstick on them, we would light them and smoke them, believing that women didn't have germs but men did so the lipstick meant they were safe.

I used to believe…
although (and perhaps because) i was never a thumb sucker, I believed that if I sucked hard enough, I could get water to come out of my thumb. in reality, of course, this water was my own saliva.
I used to believe…
In order to stop me from biting my nails, my mother (and a couple friends of her) used to tell me that nails would accumulate in my body, one over the other, and they would eventually fuse and form a long blade which would then come out of my throat and wouldn't let me breathe anymore. I still bite my nails to this day :-)
I used to believe…
My Grandfather worked in an abitoir for more than 40 years and has 4 fingers and 1 thumb missing from the knuckle to show for it. When I was younger he would tell us that he lost his fingers by picking his nose, one day they had got stuck and just come off!
I never really believed him, after all how could someone with an average sized nose have 4 fingers and a thumb stuck up there! However, it didnt stop me from suggesting to my son who had started sticking his fingers up his nose to ask Grandpoppy how he lost his fingers :P
I used to believe…
As a child I used to suck my thumb, that was until my nan told me she knew a little girl who used to suck her thumb as a child and she sucked it so much it went down to the bone and she was left with a bone sticking out of her hand!

My mum used to tel me that if i kept biting my nails, 1 day the sharp part would scrape against the inside of my stomach and then my tummy will pop! I stopped biting my nails...
I always used to suck my left thumb!! until I was quite old I am ashamed to say! My Mum persuaded me to give up this habit by telling me if I kept sucking my thumb it would end up falling off!
