I used to suck my thumb and rub my top lip at the same time. My mom told me that this would stimulate the hairs to grow and I'd end up with a moustache - not nice on girls (or men come to think of it)!

When I was about 9, I read in a book (the Ramona Quimby books for those who remember those) about a girl who in order to get her dad to stop smoking made all these signs describing the dangers of smoking (such as fires, black lungs, etc) and put them all over the house. I thought I could do that with my parents since they both smoked. I put signs on their bedroom door, under my dad's razor, and in their bathrobe pockets. All these years later I never found out what they thought about all that, but it didn't work since they both still smoke 2-3 packs a day.

When I was little, a friend told me that every bitten nail would turn into a diamond during digestion. Well, that same day (in fact during the following days) I... well... after long, stinky, exhaustive examinations of my by-products I had it up to with eating my nails!!

When I was little I used to think that Boogers Were accually Little people. But when You touched them They shriveled up and turned greem, and the only Way to make them alive agian was to Eat them. Boy was I a Dunce.
I was a well-known thumbsucker during my childhood. I tried to hide it as much as I could, but occassionally, I'd get caught. An uncle of mine once told me that when you suck your thumb, it shrinks and will eventually fall off. The uncle would reference my now-deceased grandfather, who only had half of his right index finger. I was told "that's how Grandpa lost his finger... he was sucking it too much." I was terrified, but couldn't stop my habit. Instead, I'd try "spreading out" my sucking, trying to not resort to my thumbs all the time, but to try my index, middle, ring and pinkie fingers as well (didn't work). Although I obviously didn't think about this threat daily after a certain point, I remember coming to the realization in high school that something I had always believed... that sucking your thumb will make it fall off... couldn't possibly be true. I asked my father and sure enough, Gramp lost his finger in a work accident while he was a ship builder in the 40's!

When I was little I seen a commercial on TV that talked about how your lungs turned black when you smoked. After hearing this I was horrified whenever my parents or grandpa would light up in front of me, to the point where I became hysterical because I somehow convinced myself I could "see" their lungs turning black.

When I was little, my mom told me not to pick my nose. A friend told me that the little green things were aliens, and if I didnt pick them out, they would get into my brain and invade. My mom told me that they were nice aleins, and instead of picking them out I should be nice and use a tissue and just blow them out.

When my sister was little my mom told her that there was a mouse that lived in her nose called a booger mouse and that it ate her boogers. She told her that if she picked her nose then the booger mouse wouldn't have anything to eat so he would start eating a hole through her nose. That put an end to the nose picking for awhile.
