I used to believe that boogers were little bugs that went up your nose when you were asleep then died and dried up and you had to pick them out in the morning when you woke up.

I used to believe…
When I was little, my mom said: If you dont stop sucking your thumb, I cut it off with my scissor. I dont hear about that and next day she caught me sucking my thumb when I watched tv. Thumb out, she said, but I wont so she ran in the kitchen and came back with her scissor. She pulled my thumb out of my mouth and put it in the scissor. So I cried an said please dont cut my thumb off. She removed the scissor. And so I stopped sucking my thumb
I can't remember who told me but I thought that if you picked your nose too much it would get bigger and bigger, the skin around it would get floppy, until your nostrils were really big and ugly. So whenever I picked my nose (yes, its true i did) straight afterwards I used to squeeze my nostrils tight so that the inward and outward pressure on my nostrils would be EVEN! And after reading this site, I just realised I still do it.

When I was little, I sucked my thumb. To get me to stop, my father showed me HIS thumbs, side by side, and said "See how this one's shorter? that's the thumb I sucked. If you don't want to have a short thumb, you'd better stop sucking it." I did, and both thumbs are now the same size.
I've used this on all three of my children, with great results. ROFL

When I was about 5 - 10 ,I had a really bad habit of biting my nails.(fingers and toes)My mom told me that I could get worms in my stomach from the dirt underneath and I believed her.I am still not sure if it is true..but my daughter does the same thing, but the story did not work on her for she is still eating her nails.

My dad told me that if I kept biting my nails that I would get frog fingers.
I think he just meant that they would *look* like frog fingers, all knobby and wide. He's right, but I've seen worse than what I ended up with.
I never believed in this...but I started telling my kids this: Everytime you pick your nose, it slowly removes the glue that keeps your nose on your face. And eventually if you pick long enough your nose would start getting loose and fall off. Try it....wiggle your nose....see...its already loose..

WHEN I WAS A LITTLE BOY I USED TO BELIEVE THAT IF I DIDN'T SUCK MY THUMB THAT MY FAT SMELLY SISTER WOULD BITE IT OFF. THIS SOUNDS REALLY STUPID BUT I SUCKED MY THUMB UNTIL I WAS IN THE 10TH GRADE.

One of my teachers told me that if I picked my nose and I had really sticky boogers that my figer would get stuck in my nose and they would have to have surgery to take it out and they would also have to take the finger off of my hand.

when I was a young girl a neighbor told my brother and I that if we picked our nose and ate the boogers, they would turn into worms in our stomach.
We were so scared we didn't do it again, and just picked our nose and got rid of the evidence any way we could. Well, our grandma could always tell if we'd been picking our noses, somehow, and would chastise us. We were probably just messy about it, but I was convinced she was psychic.

My older sister taught me that if I swallowed gum and chewed my fingernails, the bits of fingernails would get embeded in the gum. the gumnail ball would travel about inside my body and slice up my heart and other vital organs.

My mom used to tell me that if I bit my nails, I would later look like the Venus of Millo. I went on biting them...
But then, I had to find a job.
I sucked my thumb until first grade or so - a big part of what made me stop was that my Mom told me that, if I kept sucking my thumb, I would end up looking like Freddie Mercury. I was probably the only first grader who knew who Freddie Mercury was and I was petrified of looking like him.

When i was a young boy i sucked my thumb, my mom told me that she would put pepper on my thumb if i didn't stop. I didn't listen because she didn't do it. Then she told me I would have buck teeth, i stared in the mirror and i swore that i was getting buck teeth so i stopped.

In old west lore, Billy the Kid was called 'buck toothed'. I thought this was because he sucked his thumb.

In the early 60's, when I was a toddler, my mom tried in vain to get me to stop sucking my thumb. Eventually she must of gotten pretty desperate because she told me that if I kept it up, that I would turn black! Well I truly believe in "what goes around comes around" because some time after kicking the habit at about age 3, this came back around to my unsuspecting mom....I'm told that while standing in line at a store, I stood staring at another child about my age, who happened to be black, and said to my mom's horror: "ah ha! you've been sucking your thumb!" Thankfully, this fear tactic my mom thought to be innocent taught my mom a tough lesson, so from then on, all jokes aside, I was taught to honor the truth about all of the different cultures in our world!

When I was little, I thought boogers bounced. So each night, when nobody could watch me, I would pick every last booger out of my nose. I stuck all the boogers together on my bedside table, trying to create a ball of boogers large enough to use as a bouncy ball. Unfortunately for me at the time, my sister kept throwing my booger balls away before they became a large enough size.
