When I was about 5 or so, my mom had taken me shopping with her. As we were walking down the sidewalk, and people would be passing us, I suddenly took notice that everyone who was walking -- even my own mom -- moved their arms in perfect sync with their legs. As their left leg stepped forward, their left arm also moved forward, in perfect sync -- and then the same with their right arm and right leg.
I was facinated, then began looking around to see if there was anyone who wasn't doing it. The only exceptions were when people were holding something -- but if their arm was free, it always moved in sync with their corresponding leg.
Finally, I looked up at my mom and asked, "Mommy, is it a law that people have to swing their arms next to their legs when they walk?"
Completely clueless to what I was talking about, she just answered, "Yes."
And so, for years afterwards, I truly thought it was a law!
How funny that when I grew up and learned about science, I discovered that it really WAS a law -- the physical LAW of nature!
