I used to believe your eardrum was a little pile in your ear and if you stuck a q-tip too far in there you'd make it break off and tip over and if you turned your head to one side it'd roll out of your ear. After that where it broke off it'd bleed and then scab over into a new eardrum but you'd be deaf in that ear.
