A childhood belief about fear of

When I was little, I asked my older sister what the flushing of the toilet was. She didn't give me a direct answer, but she told me never to be sitting on the toilet or have the lid open when you flush it. I became convinced that it was some sort of monster that would try to eat me, and then (I don't know how this part got into my head) I became convinced that if I made it past the toilet, the monster would come out of the bathroom closet. So I would do my stuff, close the lid, wash my hands, then flush the toilet and bolt for the door, making sure the closet door was closed.

It made me quicker in the bathroom.
