When I was little I didn't know what the word 'determined' meant and always pronounced it 'dettermind.' It took me ages to realise what it meant and how it was really supposed to be pronounced. How embarrassing!
A childhood belief about speaking

others believed things like this
- When I was young I used to think that WHSmith was all one word, and was thus pronounced "Wwwhhhhuuusmith"— Nathan
- I used to believe that the word 'circumstances' was pronounced 'circus dancers'.— Mel
- When i first saw the word "Czech" somewhere, i pronounced it "siz-ETCH" in my head — Pachisu
- I used to think that heater was spelled "header"(which i didn't know was pronounced hedder)— Olivia
- i used to believe that 'island' was pronounced 'is-land' instead. I know im not alone on that one! :)
