I never knew what the purpose of an appendix was. Since the doctors are able to remove it I figured it wasn't that viable of a body part. My father told me that it was used for eating rocks, back in the caveman days. Since we don't eat rocks anymore doctors could remove it.
I never understood how we could get more blood either. My father explained that the body squeezes all of the organs it doesn't use anymore (like the appendix) and gets the blood from them.
I had both of these beliefs until high school.
