I used to have the very peculiar belief that my tonsils--indeed, the tonsils of all human beings--were located inside of the tongue. The proof I had? Tongues are covered in little bumps! Those bumps, I concluded, were actually tonsils. For the longest time, the idea of having one's tonsils removed confused me, because I couldn't figure out how the surgeons could manage to remove every single one. There were, after all, so many, so deeply imbedded in the tongue...
I'm not sure what set me straight. Strangely enough, I don't think it was a sore throat, even though that would've made my tonsils swollen. Perhaps it was actually catching tonsilitis, and gathering on the side that those fleshy pink things in the back of my throat were my tonsils... Though I doubt I admitted my revelation to the world.
