A childhood belief about sex

My eight-year-old brother was watching TV with my mother, when the show mentioned something about a hooker. My brother asked my mother what a hooker was. My mother just told him quietly that hookers "sell their bodies for money".

A few weeks later, my brother asked me, "Don't hookers eventually die, Ashley?"

"What? Why?"

"If hookers have to sell their bodies for money, won't they eventually die?"

I finally figured out that he'd gotten the idea that hookers were people who cut off and sold their organs and appendages: carving out their livers and stomachs, cutting off their fingers and feet, because they were too poor to earn money any other way.

In answer to his question, I just told him, "Yeah".
