A childhood belief about bathrooms

Whenever I would use a sink or any form of running water I always had to keep a body part or something else in the stream. I had this belief that there was a little man who lived under our house (and every other house) and he looked at all the water passing out of your house through a transparent pipe. He could always tell if the water was being used for something or if it was just going down the drain untouched.

I always believed that if he ever caught you wasting water something bad would happen and that he would be ok withunused water for a moment or two when you first turn on the tap or before you turn it off, but nothing more was allowed.

I still don't know what would happen if he caught you, but i never wanted to find out.
