My husband loves it when I sing along to the radio because I almost always have the lyrics wrong.
When I was young, the line in the song "Just Once" that says "I gave my all, but I think my all may have been too much." I thought he was singing "I gave my arm, but I think my arm may have been too much." I thought Quincy Jones was a one armed man who took VanGogh's idea just a little too far.
Along those same lines, I thought that Stevie Nicks was singing "Just like the one-winged dove" instead of "Just like the white winged dove"...I must have had a thing for amputees!
A childhood belief about misheard lyrics

others believed things like this
- I used to think that the song "Just like white winged dove" by Stevie Nicks was "Just like the white window" — Julia
- Remember the old Tubes song "White Punks on Dope". Thought they were singing "White Folks are Dumb"
— WailerMan - I had never seen a dove in real life before so I figured they were just mythical beings from the bibleAnon
- When Madonna sang "let the choir sing" in "Like a Prayer", I thought she was singing "love by proxy"— Kristen
- That song that goes:
I'll never let you go...
I thought he was singing:
Another machine gun...
