I read a book in the library because I was bored, about girls and puberty. I learned about how we have periods, and I learned about tampons. I thought you were only allowed to use one tampon in your entire life, and periods lasted every day. (It got reaaaaaaaaly distorted) I knew they started when you were 10-14, but I thought they lasted until the day you died. I also thought everyone wore a tampon always, and that it turned into a baby when you got married (I had a wild imagination). I never knew about sex because my parents were strict, very strage catholics, but I figured it out through another library book =). So, after we left the library, I saw a buch of women and thought "They all have tampons inside them." I finally got straightened out by my mom when I was 10. Thank God.
A childhood belief about periods

others believed things like this
- I never knew how tampons worked, I always thought they would fit in a female flat, like a hot dog.— only me
- i used to believe that women wore bras because their periods happened in their boobies.Anon
- There were no writers behind children's books--they just magically appeared at the library! Anon
- My friends son thought tampons were for mufflers for women so that they wouldn't fart. Anon
- When my mom was a child, she thought that while girls had periods, boys had hemorrhoids!Anon
- I also used to think that Mommies didn't have periods. I thought it went away once you had a baby.— T
