we had a map of hawaii and a map of the continental united states in our hall. both were multi colored, where each island and each state was a different hue.
i used to beleive that each state was an island, but they didn't have enough room on the map to draw the water surrounding each island so they squished them all together to fit on the map.
A childhood belief about places

others believed things like this
- I grew up in Hawaii, and was pretty sure that our country, the United States, was the fiftieth stateAnon
- I used to believe that China was attached to the United States somewhere up near Washington state.Anon
- I used to think that Alaska was an island!— Draqula
- i used to believe that 'island' was pronounced 'is-land' instead. I know im not alone on that one! :)
— Da KornMeal - i used to believe alaska was an island because of the way they put it on our booksAnon
- I used to believe that Ireland was called that because it really is an island!Anon
