My aunt & Grandmother used to tell me that whenever you were lying, your tongue would turn black. Whenever something was broken or missing in the house; they'd gather all of the extended family and tell the kids to stick out their tongues. I was told on several occasions that I had the dreaded "black tongue".....I would look in a mirror; no black tongue....and I thought I was not seeing what my grandma was seeing. I guess it was a way to get someone to admit wrongdoing....but I admitted to breaking my grandmother's desk just to make her leave us alone.
