When I was little (5....maybe 6.....) I used to believe that, within darkness under my bed, an evil old woman lived. Every night I had to avoid facing the edge of the bed or she would appear and (of all things) eat my face. I believed firmly that her motive for doing this was that she was jealous because I was younger and prettier than her and wanted to hurt me because of it. To protect myself from her, my favourite stuffed dog always 'slept' infront of me, not because he had any special protective powers, but so that, should the woman appear, she wouldn't see me.
I remember her face vividly in my over active imagination. She has a deathly pale, wrinkled, slightly swollen face and blind eyes. Her white hair is matted and dusty and she has row upon row of razor sharp teeth.
Weirdly I recently discussed this with my twin sister and, despite the fact that we never discussed the woman, we both believed that she existed. Rather scarily, we both imagined her in the same way and doing the same thing.....sometimes I wonder if there is/was a woman under my bed.......
