When i was young, up to the age of about 8 or so, i misheard when people said taste buds and thought that they were actually called taste 'bugs'. I thought that we all had these black beetles crawling around inside our tongues, tasting the food we ate and sending messages to our body saying whether the food was yummy or gross.
I would sometimes squeeze my tongue and thought i could feel them in there.
Once when i was looking at my tongue in the mirror and i saw all these little red dots on top of it (REAL taste buds) i thought i had a disease!
i asked my older sister and she told me it wasn't a disease because she had the same thing. I was like,
"We've both got the tongue disease! we'll have to keep our mouths closed forever so no one else gets it."
I was hysterical until she explained to my poor, uninformed mind all about taste 'buds'.
