My Mommy was SO SMART about things. Once when I was 3 years old (one of my earliest memories) we lived on the third floor of this rented room of a house. My Mom had me and my brothers look out of the window at some older kids down there
who were dressed in odd costumes. She said to us "those are 'trick-or-treaters' ... they're going to come up here and knock on the door and we will give them candy" ! (pause for dramatic effect here)..... and THEY DID ! I remember thinking "How did my mommy KNOW that was going to happen "?..."She must know everything" !
But also in the back of my mind was another thought... "why is she giving these other kids OUR candy...didn't she buy it for US (me and my brothers)" ?!
