Growing up as an Irish catholic, each household was expected to make a meatier donation than usual at Christmas and Easter. These were known as the Christmas Dues and Easter Dues respectively.
I used to think that they were donations for poor Jewish people.
A childhood belief about church

on Christmas Day and crucified the
following Easter.— William Golding - on "highway to hell" i always thought it goes "baby see, baby do" instead of "hey satan, payin´ my dues"— Miss Understood
- I grew up Jewish. Until I was about 10, I believed that everyone who wasn't Jewish was Catholic.— Philm35
- I was told that for every christmas carol i sang before christmas time santa would give me one less present!— K
- Since Germans speak German, I thought Jewish people spoke Jewish.— Lori
