I used to believe if someone was killed in a movie then that meant they were killed in real life too. I thought actors accepted roles voluntarily and knew that they would be killed and wanted to die for whatever reason. It wasn't until my mom and I were watching a movie together and I asked why a particular character wanted to die that she figured out what I had thought was going on and corrected me.
